“This is a very comfortable shirt. The body length is good, longer than standard shirts but the length of the arm is slightly short. I was disappointed to find that on the first wear of the shirt the outside stitching of one of the seams on a sleeve came undone along most of its length. this has not stopped me wearing it as there is an inner stitch which holds it together. The shirts look very smart and save you the hassle of having to wear a jumper.”
“I am an avid devotee of these shirts, despite their shortcomings. Of course, I cannot comment on these new shirts, but I have several years experience. A pattern cutter explained the term ‘cabbage’ to me as being the profit he could make by getting more shapes from a piece of material than the original estimation. This, seems to be the reason that the seams have given way on some of these shirts.
I have bought several of the Birch over the years and never had a problem, but the green Beech ones have. Also, on the the lamented Bracken after, I must admit, hard usage.
I have tried the red one this time for the first time; keeping my fingers crossed.
However, don’t be put off, they are lovely and comfortably warm, and I wear them daily.
A return of the Bracken is overdue, as it is the only other one from the Birch that looks respectable enough to be worn under a jacket and waistcoat.”
