About Jaques of London:
In 1795 Thomas Jaques took on his 15-year-old son, John as an apprentice. Together they established ‘Thomas Jaques: Manufacturer of Ivory, Hardwoods, Bone and Tunbridge Ware’ in Hatton Garden. We have remained a family run business ever since, with the same unwavering passion for quality games and toys.

Today we are ever-expanding our toy range and have been honoured with over 10 awards in the past five years as a result. Our Mini Minds Hub launched in 2020 to encourage learning at home. This is now stocked with over 150 free resources. We’ve been working for over 230 years to fill the world with more joy and we hope to keep striving for that goal long into the future. Lowend product. Once opened, the checkerboard is not aligned... Some defects in the parts.

Nice product but is not straight there is a gap in the center which means that the pieces slide even with the felt underneath.

Superbly packaged but...The tray, once unfolded, is a little wobbly.The wood of the tray has significant defects and very average finishes.The pieces are quite poorly finished. I dont recommend.

Pretty poor quality. The pieces are turnedlathed irregularly and are more eggshaped than round. Also quite light, almost falling over if you breathe heavily. Even the felt adhesive pads on the underside of the pieces are carelessly applied and cause some of them to tip slightly by up to 3 inches. The king falls into checkmate on its own. The chessboard itself is fine. You can use it for a round of chess, but then quickly pack it away again before someone sees it and asks about the price...
