“Jaques and croquet are like scones and cream: quintisentially English. I learned to play on my father's Jaques croquet set in the 1960's, with boxwood mallet heads. I bought my own Jaques croquet set about 30 years ago, with ash mallet heads. The Richmond are the cheapest adult sized mallets from Jaques (in 2024), with elm mallet heads. These a feel a little light in weight and have soft faces which are easily marked by balls. I feel they are not likely to last decades like their fourbears, hence only 4 stars.”
“Looks a nice croquet mallet. Wood is perhaps a bit too soft as it marks instantly with dents and scrapes. The reason I mention this is that the packaging it came it was not adequate as the balls that were ordered at the same time had not enough covering on so badly scratched the mallet in transit. Customer service were good and did a partial refund but would have been good in packaging of balls was better.”
