“Really disappointed with the construction quality and dreadful customer service which is surprising from an old established company like Jaques of London. First, the balls don't self-feed into the plunger slot, you have to stick your finger in the slot and push each one over a little wedge of wood. the problem with this is that the slot is too narrow for adult fingers - mine barely squeeze in. Secondly, the plunger is just a threaded metal bolt which means that every time you pull the plunger back and let go, the thread saws against the hole it passes through. Thirdly, the bit of wood used to cover the plunger slot looks like some random scrap of wood, it doesn't match the rest of the wood. This all makes the board look and feel a bit DIY, not a professionally finished or thoughtfully designed game. Why on earth have a ball feed slot that doesn't feed the ball in? Or, if you have to drop in yourself, don't make the ball storage compartment so narrow you can't easily get the balls out.
The customer service is pretty awful. I tried ringing the number on the website, but it just says, "All our lines are closed". Currently trying to get a refund sorted, but even after a few emails, I'm still waiting for the refund directions.
Really, REALLY disappointing. I would caution anyone from buying from this company.”
“It is a Christmas gift for a 10-year-old lad. I opened up the packaging to make sure everything was ok before wrapping it up again and then will place it under a Xmas tree in December. It did look very well made and in very good condition. I always worry about items coming through the post and boxes being damaged etc. But everything looks good. I hope we all enjoy playing with it on Christmas morning.”
“This is intended as a Christmas present, so I have not dared to disturb the beautifully packed and attractive presentation. I trust Jacques reputation so that they have inspected the item carefully before it was packaged. I would be extremely surprised and disappointed if this proved not to be the case.”
