Door Hinge Shims Spacer to suit Prado 120, 150 & FJ Cruiser Reviews

4.9 Rating 83 Reviews
My "new" Prado arrived from Melbourne looking pretty much like its pix online except the rear door had lived a hard life and sagged so much that it was difficult to shut. I saw the Youtuber called Fourby4 Diesel talking about these new shim sets made by Kaon and I really like the idea of stuffing a solid sheet of metal between the hinge and the door as opposed to just spacing the hinge away with washers. From my basic understanding of engineering, it looked like the forces would be better distributed at the mounting points. Well, I ordered two sets of two shims (cost about $25) and ended up inserting three of the four shims I received. It was an easy job. I backed out the two lower hinge mounting bolts, had my daughter lift the door a little, poked the stack of shims into place then tightened the bolts. Maybe five minutes, total. And now the door opens and shuts like a new one! Absolutely perfect. Great Aussie creation.

I've ordered may things from Kaon over the years and it's always been top notch products. The delivery is slow for Perth residents however the customer service is beyond ones expectations. Tin has always taken calls and answered questions however the most exemplary customer service of late goes to Yen. I needed some back door shims for a FJ Cruiser and I was in the middle of the Simpson when this failed. When I got to Birdsville I called to see if I can pay for these and have them shipped to a nominated Hotel in Cairns. Yen made the process just too easy. Unfortunately the hotel didn't sign for the package as instructed and Australia Post sent the item back to Yen. I emailed Yen who organised to have the package sent to another address of my convenience. The package arrived. A big thanks to Kaon for making great products and an outstanding customer service experience. The only thing Kaon need to do now is make a rear bumper for the FJ :o) Thanks!

The shims were easy to install and I used 3 to fix the sag and realign the door. It's such a simple product with smart design that makes it easy to install and fixes the problem perfectly. It meant buying two sets of shims but means I have 1 spare shim in case it sags a little more in the next 15 years.

Simple fix for a common problem. Loosen two bolts, lift the door a bit with a chair and a jack, squeeze the shims in. Took 5 mins.

I purchased these after the rear door on my Prado had dropped and was annoyingly squeaking on the door catches. Any amount of lubricating did not help. Fitting these shims which took about three minutes solved the problem and now opening and closing the door is a pure joy.
