“I bought the Kickass MPPT Solar Controller to replace the TPS1230 unit in my Jayco Caravan. The Kickass unit can charge multiple battery types, inluding LiFePO4, which I am planning to upgrade to.
Apart from a 10A higher rating than the original unit, my batteries are typically at float voltage before lunch time. This unit charges the batteries better than the 240V Setec charger in the van!!!

“Easy to set up, great instructions supplied and mounting template. I have used around 15 different solar regulators and this one is by far the easiest to use. (Screen mppt type) I like that you can set it to always be on. I've had others that you set to manual mode and if you bump the button they turn off so always on is a great feature. I think it is a little on the large size with massive heat fins on the back however this should help it last longer in hot conditions. I currently have 5 or so of these in the field and non of them have faulted yet. Some have been in use for over 12months.
An extra feature that we use is an SMS gate relay so we can remotely switch off and on our power. Having this built into an all in one mppt controller and sms/mobile data compatibility would be very useful. Perhaps also for monitoring etc... All in all we will definitely be buying more of these controllers in the future.”
