Regarding upgrading pickups on cheaper basses, I've only tried Fender 62 or 63 Ps and will always remain a Fender tone fan. However, recently I got a "project bass for science experiments" and so thought I'd be more adventurous and get these EMGs for a different flavour. Well, I'm so impressed and definitely keeping them! These have a solid tonal range, good clarity, and a very nice warm vintage sound that I was hoping for. That fat tubey rock sound became really evident playing it through a Laney Digbeth Pre pedal with tube selected plus a bit of grit. Yup, that put a smile on my dial and almost a tear, considering the guitar was cheaper than the pickups! Have no hesitation recommending these EMG's, they're super easy to install and deliver bass pleasure. Also thanks to Modern Musician for having the best deal in Australia at the time of purchase.

Nice pickups. Put them in my MIM fender P bass, if my old pickups were lacklustre like Kinder surprise chocolate, these have a nice balance and richness to them, like a Lindt premium dark chocolate
