“I do like these. I moved from a hanging waterer to this in a 5 gallon bucket with a heater to cut down on the mess. It definitely is much more efficient with keeping water in place and my hens adjusted to it quickly. It is also convenient for when we have to go away for any duration. Much easier for the hen-sitters to just gather eggs and monitor the level.
It has been below freezing here for the last 5 days (never above) and the last 3 have had some heavy winds. I did check and the nipple is getting frozen shut to where the hens cannot peck it loose. I was able to get them running again with little effort. This weather has been a bit on the extreme side (cold, wind, and cloudy). As much as I like these and would definitely purchase again, I can't say they are freeze free so you still need to keep a close eye during unfavorable conditions.”
Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re so glad to hear that the waterer has worked well in terms of efficiency and convenience, especially for those times when you need a hen-sitter. It sounds like it’s been a big help in reducing mess and maintaining water for your flock. We appreciate your honest feedback about the freezing issue in extreme conditions. While we strive for freeze-resistant solutions, as you’ve noted, particularly harsh cold and wind can still pose challenges, and it's always good to keep an eye on things in those conditions. We recommend adding a heating source to the water supply during extreme temperature drops to help prevent freezing during those times. Personally, I have used the Perfect Bucket Heater De-Icer when faced with the very cold days and nights.
“They definitely work in freezing temps. Nipples don't freeze when using a reliable water heating source as instructed. The chickens also learned pretty fast how to use them.”
We’re so glad to hear that the nipples are working well even in freezing temps and that your chickens quickly learned how to use them. It’s great to know that with a reliable heating source, they’re staying functional through the cold weather. We appreciate you sharing your experience!
“Came with no washers. used silcone. not sure what is leaking - the threads or the silver nipple. Not Good go to a different company. Delivery sucked.”
We are very sorry that you are dissatisfied with this product. We want to help and apologize for the delayed response. These nipple waterers do not come with washers, but if the correct drill bit, 11/32" is used then they should fit snugly and not leak, as other customers have posted. Using plumbing tape is not necessary, but can help if the drilled hole is too large due to the bit or shifting during the drilling process. We have reached out to your directly to see how we can help.
“Have a actual 1/8” n.p.t. (pipe thread) threads, not just metric self tapping threads. So if you are ocp like me and actually drilled and taped they fit snug and do not leak. My power went out for a few days and the bucket they were installed in froze solid. I figured they would all be broke and leak but none broke and they all seal excellent. I actually removed previously installed nipple drinkers and threw them away to install these in my brooders to. No more dripping drinkers in the brooder although I did leave the other water in there until I was sure everyone could use them as they are slightly more harder to activate than the cheapos. Birds like em, I like em, and I have had no problems whatsoever with them. Highly recommend”
