Baby Chicks: Easter Egger Female Reviews

4.8 Rating 190 Reviews
Overall really great birds. Very friendly, inquisitive, and vocal. Their coloration varies wildly. My EE’s started laying at 21 weeks. Only complaint is telling them apart in shipping. I split an order and ordered multiple breeds and found that the EE’s look so similar to many of the others I ordered. I ended up giving away really expensive chicks I wanted and accidentally keeping EE instead.

We have ordered 4 from my pet chicken over the years. One my daughter named Fella, and it turned out to be a rooster! We kept it until it started crowing and he was gorgeous. But the other 3, (Windsor, Winchester and Princess Pumpernickel) have been loving and sweet. My kids easily carry them and love on them. 2 have laid light blue eggs, the other an olive green. Their feather colors are beautifully different too. We will order more in the future!

I got two of these little gals when starting my flock and they definitely have the most personality. One was a super dark brown when she was a chick and is now white and black speckled with fluffy cheeks. She's our alpha chicken and protects everyone in the flock. They're right behind my buff orpington in friendliness and are great layers!

I wish I could post a picture with this review, because our Easter Eggers are very cute but also very different than the pictures shown here. Maybe Google a Easter Egger chickens and you will find that the appearance varies a lot with this breed. We love the two we got and I recently ordered more.

We have a mixed flock of 5 different breeds. I have 1 Easter egger and the jury is still out at 6.5 months. She hasn’t started laying yet but she is gorgeous and striking. We originally named her fancy pants as a chick because she was a gorgeous chick - but as she grew she looks EXACTLY exactly like a hawk so we renamed her Hawk. She fits that name. She’s the second in the pecking order (behind the barred rock) and she is sure to get treats, food, attention first - but she won’t let us hold her or pet her at all (while the other breeds will let us do that). I’m dying to different colored eggs so I think I will order additional EE in the future but so far I would say that I’m not totally convinced yet.

The hens I received were so tame and would let me just scoop up and snuggle them. They lay the most beautiful blue or green eggs and my kids love them. We have silkies and I was afraid they would pick on them because my friend had some and they were picked on so much they had to put them down:( But they were not mean and were such pretty birds. I have been getting about four/five eggs a week each! I am going to buy some more next spring because they are so great!

I ordered 7 easter egger pullets on hatch date 4/24/16. They have since started to lay (mid October). Our cold weather has come in full force just in time as they are starting to lay, but.. they are continuing to lay every day, or every other day! Egg colors have been green and blues, matte and shiny, so I have 2 blue egg layers and 2 greens so far! I received one cross-beak with my order, but I was aware this could be a defect, and I was prepared. She is as happy and productive as the other chickens, she challenged a hawk a few months ago. Her beak is a little more severe than others I have seen but I feed my chickens soaked (or fermented) crumbled feed and she eats throughout the day, once a month I trim and file her beak. I love my birds and I would order Easter Eggers again! They're so unique and full of personality, good workers too, they help keep me motivated to do yard work!

We originally ordered a few different breeds for our first flock, for fun and to see what they all were like. We were bummed we couldn't order EE for the hatching week we needed. Then, we got a call the day they were being shipped to inform us that a breed we had ordered wasn't available and we actually could have EE as a replacement! I was thrilled! But, it turned out at that 2/3 of the ones we received are actually dudes. Beautiful dudes. Our hen, Nutmeg, is an absolute delight! She is super chatty and loves to be around us. She consistently lays 4 pale blue eggs a week, which are delicious. All three were really flighty chicks, who turned out to be really friendly as they matured. They have the most unique voice of all our birds, with many little nuances and "words". The verdict is still out on whether any of our other birds are dudes, and we hope not, as the EE boys are turning into really great Roosters.
