My ducklings arrived in mid-February in great condition! I got a variety of breeds and chose this one, and the others, for its reported calm personality and have been very pleased. We handled the ducklings regularly and gave them ground mealworms for treats right from our hands. Their feathers are coming in now and they are simply stunning! Very alert but they don't freak out like some breeds do every time you go to the pen.

I had a few hours of anxiety because the postal tracking system didn't update and I couldn't find the package. I was finally able to get ahold of someone at my local post office who told me that he was just about to call me but was so distracted by the chirping coming from the box on his desk that he hadn't gotten around to it :) Once I pried them away from the staff at the post office and got them home and warmed up in the brooder they got to work eating and drinking and exploring. I was thrilled to find sexed Silver Appleyards and although I was nervous about having them shipped through the mail they seem to have tolerated it well. I'm excited to watch my baby girls grow up!

We received a pair of silver apple yard ducklings ... newly hatched in mid-May of this year. They are healthy birds and simply a joy to watch and live with. It is true that we have showered these two ducklings ... Chuck and Isobel with love and attention. When they were a month old we began catching earthworms for them and giving them "dirt tube" feasts night and morning as well as sitting and cuddling them until they fell asleep after their wormy feast. They loved the attention and they grew to love us. Now when one of us goes to for door of the house that faces their coop, the female Isobel quacks as loudly as she can and is quite delighted evidenced when wags her ducky tail and head bobs to us as we approach. Chuck also wags his tail and head bobs but his quack is not nearly as audible as Isobel's. They are indeed great foragers and wander around their pen munching on plants of various sorts and the odd bug or worm. We also give them an ample supply of crumbles as well. They are avid swimmers and spend a large portion of their day in the large kiddie pool we have for them. We were given 6 nearly adult ducks ...Khaki Campbells and Mallards and they are fun to watch and quite beautiful, however when we got them they were already 10 weeks old and not very susceptible to imprinting. They are not receptive to human contact at all but of course do gobble up the food and treats we bring to them. At 5 and a half months they have begun laying eggs but once these ducks do not seem to pay any attention to the eggs existence at all. The people at " My Pet Chicken" have been most helpful in answering our every question and helping us with advice on caring for our special pets. It has been a wonderful spring and summer getting to know and love our ducks especially these 2 delightful Silver Appleyard ducks.
