First time chicken keeper and I got the fever! :) I love MPC (no I am not affiliated with them, just a very happy customer). I got my first batch ever of chickens, back in the beginning of March. I started with 3 assorted Silkies and 3 assorted feather-legged bantams. My three Silkies were all (as requested) girls, and I got one each of white, partridge, and buff. They were healthy and inquisitive right from the get go, and I am now eagerly awaiting my first egg! My white Silkie, Big Bird (because, well, she looked like Big Bird from Sesame Street when she was little) is the most beautiful and tame. She is SO fluffy and it cracks me up to see her strutting around like a little fuzzy penguin! My partridge, Olive, is a total mealworm thief/foodhound. My buff, Phoebe Buffay, is the least friendly--she is a tiny bit neurotic--and the least pretty, with some black on the ends of her tail feathers, but I love her nonetheless. My husband (who was terrified of birds when I met him, I mean seriously phobic) is getting over his fear of birds as I now have 14 chickens, and he loves my Silkies the best. So not only are they kid-friendly, they are also bird-phobia friendly! Thank you MPC for sucking me into the addictive world of chickens! Much love!!!!

i have yet to see a box full of DOA's. always very lively and animated when they come to my post office.(as soon as i walk in, i can hear those little giants all the way in the back. ) they try really hard to give you the best they have. i ordered several different breeds, and even adoption chickens, i had ordered 3 silkies in the mix and i was VERY surprised when i saw a fourth silkie running around in the brooder as either a complementary free chick, or one of my late hatcher. i thought surely IF they were gonna give a complementary x-tra, it'd be an inexpensive adoption chick, and when u get late hatch adoption chicks, they'd give the least expensive they could find... NOPE! they went full out and gave me, yet again, some not-so-shabby adoption chicks. plus i got a 4th silkie!!! Yay!

First, Silkie's are pet chickens...they lay small eggs with low frequency. They are fantastic brooders and when we decide to let some new babies be born we always grab our silkies and move them and the eggs to another location and they happily hatch them and raise them. All of our silkies are incredibly independent from the flock and are usually off doing their own thing. All of ours love to be held and will follow people around looking for attention...we truly love them. BUT, they are the least intelligent of all the breeds we have and are incredibly defenseless due to their size and slow top speed. If you are buying this breed just know you are getting pet chickens that will depend on you to survive and in return you will get a compassionate friend that loves to be around you.

After speaking with someone I realized I made a terrible mistake in my previous review. I was not aware of the process and how in demand certain breeds are. I can't seem to remove my first review but hope folks read on and see this corrected review!
