“She's about 10 weeks now and so far, so good. She comes running when she sees me and will jump on my lap/shoulders. I had to get rid of a mis-sexed rooster, and I predict that she will take over as the gentle head of the pecking order. She's absolutely beautiful and does well with the other four pullets.”
“We received several healthy chicks from MPC about 18 months ago (February 2020). The ordering and shipping process was smooth and the customer service was outstanding (I contacted them with several questions)! Our Austra-White is beautiful and friendly. She only has a couple small flecks of grey/black, so she resembles a Leghorn, but with a fuller build and smaller comb. She began laying at 21 weeks and gave us 6 medium/large eggs/week (50-59 grams) for her first year of laying (slowing down a bit through our Michigan winter) and is now averaging 4-5 eggs/week. Her eggs are, in my opinion, the prettiest of all our hens. They are perfectly shaped and have a creamy, ivory coloring. She did go broody once this spring and was very difficult to break (it took 4 days!). However, less than two weeks later she resumed laying.”
“I almost didn‚Äôt get my first pick, the Austra White, but a last minute hatch secured her. She was my most tame chick, hopping willingly into my hand for a lift and a cuddle. As a Pullet she‚Äôs still super sociable, interested, always watching me and coming over to see what‚Äôs up. I adore her!”
“We purchased five female chicks from MyPetChicken with a hatch date of June 1, 2020. All five arrived healthy (despite USPS slowdown), and all were sexed correctly. We received two Austra Whites along with three Easter Eggers. The Austra Whites were a bit of an after thought, since they were sold out of some of the other breeds we wanted, but we are SO HAPPY with them. Of the six, only these two have started laying (they are all now twenty four weeks old). One started "squatting" for me at 19 weeks, and laid her first egg at 20 weeks 1 day. The other started laying at 22 weeks of age. Right now they are each laying one egg a day (so two total), and I wish we had more of them! Although we are looking forward to seeing the blue and green eggs from our Easter Eggers, collecting two cream eggs from our Austra Whites each morning has been a joy. One of the Austra Whites is definitely the alpha of our group, but she is generally very gentle with the other chickens (with just an occasional peck to keep them in line), and she is the only one of the group that actually likes to be held and will hop up on my lap if I'm sitting near them. The other is a little more skittish. They are both beautiful white birds with different black spot marking on their back. A great (and affordable) choice - I'll definitely getting more of these if I decide to expand my flock in the future!”
“I had Austra Whites in 2003 to 2009 and loved them. I now have 6, 3 June 1/20 and 3 late July. The June 1 are now laying their small pullet eggs. All of this breed is super sweet and held daily.”
“Miss Nettle is the perfect mix. I got her to replace my leghorn. Not flighty, good layer. Very relaxed and easy to love on. She does not lay white eggs though. More of a red/brown. Not like any of my other birds at all. Curious if anyone else has run into a color other then white.”
“I bought 4 Austra White chicks (all female) in Feb/March, they started laying at about 5 mo old, no surprise! But what did surprise me was that 2 of them went broody within 2 weeks of starting to lay :shocked_face_with_exploding_head: I decided to let them set on a few eggs just to see if they would follow through. I now have 5 new additions to the flock! 1 of them is a BEAUTIFUL blue (Australorpe roo + Austra White hen) my daughter named it "Smokey". I couldn't be more pleased with these hens!”
“Got my first order of Austra White (3) on June 3 and my second one today, July 21. The first 3 are wonderful, sweet and love being held, and are healthy. The new dears, look great and drank right away and are now into their food. Love them.”
