Baby Chicks: Austra White Female Reviews

We only have one Austra White but she is the most docile and sweetest of our 25 hens. You can pick her up and she doesn't mind being carried around. She is a consistent layer. I am definitely ordering more.

I bought these years ago from My Pet Chicken. They were like dogs, and loved being pet and carried around. Great layers, too. Can't recommend them enough.

My daughter saved for months to buy her chickens. We bought a flock of hens consisting of 2 austra whites, 2 australorps, 2 Easter eggers, and 2 white marans. Of all their is one austra white, we call her Grease Spot who is her favorite. She has gray legs like an australorp and white with "grease" spots flung around. She was our first layer and the leader of the pack. Her eggs are a beautiful creamy color. Her sibling has yellow legs and is almost entirely white except for a smudge and she has a much smaller comb. Both are great and mypetchicken did a great job packaging our girls for shipping. You can not go wrong with this breed.

My Austra White started laying eggs at just over 5 mos old. She laid an egg everyday for 16 days. She now lays eggs about 6-7 days a week. She is definitely my most reliable hen. (She is my only hen laying white eggs). On a personality level, she is flighty. She does not liked to be touched and is always the furthest away from people, in the flock. She is not a friendly bird. If you are looking for a great egg layer of white eggs, this is your girl! If you are looking for a friendly backyard pet, I would look elsewhere.

I ordered my first chicks 18 months ago. 2 Buff Orpington hens, 2 Barred Rocks (1 rooster, 1 hen) and 2 Austra White hens. Our chickens free range during the day. As is the case where I live, predators are an unfortunate part of the free range life. Our very sweet Buff Orpingtons were sadly taken within a year. My shy and gentle Barred Rock hen died of an unknown illness around a year. My rooster remains vital (even fought off foxes a couple of times) and my 2 Austra Whites are going strong, now 18 months old. These are hearty girls who lay eggs consistently (even through the winter). One did get sick once but recovered and the other broke a leg, and I thought she would not make it, but she recovered as well. They are not particularly affectionate (despite being hand raised) or aggressive, and are somewhat flighty/cautious but I think that has helped in their free range survival thus far. I highly recommend this breed!

Such a good girl! Beautiful, friendly and an all around nice bird. She lays big cream/light brown eggs. As s little chick, I wondered how many dark flecks she would have but it turns out she is pure white with ONE dark fleck on the top of her head. :) I'd definitely recommend this breed.

Couldn't figure out how to update my review, but my girls are nearing ten months around now, and my Austra White is still the best. She is a gorgeous and dependable layer, and her feathers get prettier and prettier than shown here. She did go broody for awhile, however I recognize every bird is different because they're individuals. I'm more than happy to throw a few eggs/chicks under her this summer, hopefully including some more Austra Whites because they're the best. Sidenote: she also comes up for hugs and loves sitting on my shoulder and spending time together in general. She escapes the coop constantly, but always because she's right next to me wherever I am. Added to that, she puts herself away when she's done and is very well behaved. Easiest bird to handle.

We have a small mixed flock (just chickens) and the Austrawhite is hands down the best. She's sweet, curious, and lays extra large cream colored eggs every day. She's a machine!
