Baby Chicks: Barred Plymouth Rock - SR Reviews

4.9 Rating 114 Reviews
I have one named Zebra that I got with 2 other breeds from here in April, and she is very sweet, but still quite skittish as she’s still kinda a baby! I had the same breed awhile ago but she got killed by a hawk sadly... she was a lovable hen. But zebra is super sweet when she’s getting her cuddles!

Today I was was so exited when we got our 6 new baby chicks! We already have 7 adult chickens, and we are glad we got more! We have 2 Barred Rocks, one a full adult who is the greatest chicken ever, and now one new one who is a cute little guy. I would for sure recommend this breed to you! Thank you MPC!

We ordered a total of 9 chicks in the spring and 8 months later we are so glad we decided to take the plunge. We have 2 Barred Rocks, a Dominique, a Silver Cuckoo Marins, and 5 from the Rare Breed assortment. They are all sweet, lap chickens who have survived an incredibly hot, humid, rainy Florida summer. Even still at the end of Oct we had a real feel temp of 95• yesterday. We installed a fan in their run and they had lots of cold treats this summer. The Barred Rocks- Lucy and Ethyl and definitely up there in the pecking order, very curious, the first to greet us, but not aggressive. They lay a light brown egg almost every day now.

Our Barred Rock is the surprise favorite. We got her as an afterthought, and she has become my family's favorite. She's hardy, the first chick to start laying, bold but not aggressive at all, the first chicken to figure stuff out, and very friendly. She is one smart hen, and she's also a looker. All around winner.

My Barred Plymouth Rock is very friendly and curious. She like to sit with me, occasionally in my lap. She's somewhere in the middle of the pecking order. Doesn't cause trouble, not at all skittish. Can't wait til she starts to lay! We are only at 3.5 months now. Would definitely get this breed again.

We ordered five chicks. They all survived transportation to Florida. One was lethargic but survived with some eggs and electrolytes. They are a week old now. They are already so spunky and fun!

I bought a batch of chicks 8 years ago. One of them was a BR rooster. I cuddled him and petted him and rubbed his comb and waddles for 6 straight months from the day I got him from this company. He is amazing!!!! He has protected his ladies from hawks and critters in the coop, he is a super gentle and still eats treats right out of my hand! I let my 5 year old play outside after I let the chickens out in the yard on occasion with no worries he will attack her. And his spurs are massive! If he wanted to do damage he certainly could. He is such a wonderful and gentle bird but is starting to decline so when I decided to add a new rooster to the flock I had to come back to order from My Pet Chicken again!

I purchased one of this breed from MPC, and Ruby remained my favorite for years. She was a great pet and did a good job with the eggs. Well worth the money.
