“My Barred Rock was a last minute switch. The chick I originally ordered didn‚Äôt hatch on my date. So I added a Barred Rock to complete my order. I‚Äôm so glad I did! She is the friendliest out of the whole group. She is a true lap chicken and I‚Äôve trained her to jump up on my arm on command. She started laying at 23 weeks. She is head hen and a little bossy to the others but I love my Barred Rock.”
“As a first time chicken owner, I was sure she was a rooster, because her comb was making an appearance at week two. My Rocky is a crimson crown Queen, who allows herself to be caught and loved by anyone, and is a earwig eating machine. Everyone should own at least one in their chicken coop.”
“I purchased a BR for my flock of 4. Maisy is my favorite girl. By far the friendliest, and the hardiest. She loves to purr while getting attention. My Pet Chicken costumer service was so helpful and professional. Thank you”
“I picked up 2 in my first time purchase through MPC in June. We have a mixed flock of 5 and these two are gorgeous and so funny to watch grow through their awkward juvenile phase. One is definitely the leader of the group and the other is happy lower on the totem pole. Both are super sweet, smart, and have tolerated a very hot summer well.”
“Love my Barred Rock Josephina she preens herself and fluffs her feathers well. She kind of runs the show but with a gentle hand. A little stubborn and likes to use her wings but stays low to the ground. She watches over the flock and food fountain. She has liked to sit on the food fountain since day one but is paying off in quick easy growth. This is a truly wonderful easy to raise breed for any farmer particularly backyard farmers who love a reliable breed. Josephina started my small backyard flock and love her dearly. Great choice for happy laying hens.”
“We purchased our first group of chickens from my pet chicken in August of 2015. I loved them then and I adore them now. At almost three years our barred rocks and plymouth rocks have endured harsh winters and blazing summers and are still egg laying machines. My youngest just completed her first year of 4-H and earned a 4th place in showmanship with her favorite Barred Rock. Calm and docile and extremely healthy. I couldn't have asked for a better group of birds. We just purchased Ducks in April from my pet chicken and they have been wonderful. Fantastic site with healthy, show worthy flocks.”
“We had them in Utah, they were great layers of large brown eggs. They had a coop they automatically went into at dusk and then we locked them in for safety. They had large laying boxes and often would run into the coop during the day and lay an egg. Our temperatures were from 100¬∞ to -10¬∞ with about 3ft. of snow. When it was extremely cold we put a red heat lamp on in the ceiling, gave them extra feed and fresh vegetables on their list of foods they could have. Sometimes if they were in too long we let the out and they would go into the hay barn or into the horses stalls and pick through the shavings. Our horses don't mind them at all.
