“This is my favorite chicken! She is basically a dog. She comes running every time we open the door. She has even tried to hop in my van and take a ride with us. She lets us hold her and just has a sweet, friendly demeanor. Plus it doesn’t hurt that she is gorgeous.”
“I have owned almost all the different Marans colors available with My Pet Chicken and the Blue Copper and Blue Splash are GORGEOUS. I have two Blue Splash, two Blue Copper, and two Birchen. The blue copper girls are the deepest blue with dark blue necks, they dont have any copper yet but they are stunning especially in the sunlight. (Sometimes the copper does show up until after they're first hard molt at almost two and these girls aren't quite there yet, if they do get some copper they will be just stunning)
They're curious, plump (no fears of egg bound with these wide hips you can tell the marans is a farm to table bird from france with these girls!) and they're friendly but not needy. They don't want to sit in my lap but they will come when called and follow me around the yard.
I have several Marans so it's hard to know exactly which girls lay what but I'm pretty sure that one of my girls lays a brown egg with a heavy bloom that makes it look sorta purple/pink but if you get it wet it is a brown sometimes with little flecks of darker on it. The other girl is either laying a lighter brown with super deep dark spots/flecks they are almost black they're so dark or a medium brown. They just stopped laying for winter and I'm excited to see what their color will be in Spring after they have had their holiday break! Definitely recommend this color variety!”
