Baby Chicks: Blue/Black/Splash Cochin Female Reviews

4.5 Rating 27 Reviews
Well I ordered 8 chicks, 1 rooster and 7 hens. 1 was dead on arrival, 1 died a couple days later. From the 6 remaining I have 2 roosters and 4 hens. I was hoping the rooster wasn't one of the chicks that died so I can have some chicks next spring, made me laugh that I got 2 roosters, go figure. I am very happy with them all, they are very friendly and nice. They do climb on me, sit on my shoulders and arms. I am very happy with the cochin breed, it is my first time owning this breed of chicken. I did get a refund on the chick that was dead on arrival and customer service was really great to work with. The other chick died a day after their guarantee and I didn't bother with a refund on the extra rooster. I am very happy with the chickens and I would order from this company again.

I‚Äôll first start off by saying that I DO understand how the B/B/S percentages work. While keeping this in mind I ordered 23! Yes you heard right, 23!!! My hope was to get several Splash girls. I received 17 black! 3 possible Splash, which includes at least 1 that is a rooster! I‚Äôve had enough Cochin to know a young rooster! But I‚Äôll wait until he‚Äôs of age to submit pictures. (Yes I payed to have them sexed female) I understand sexing is not an exact Science, and I know y‚Äôall will make that right, but when the odds stacked against me with so many of them being black, it just adds to my frustration. The few that are left I assume will be a very light blue. Which I don‚Äôt mind MPC has awesome customer service! I realize the hatchery is not even in the same state as the people you deal with on the phone. I know it‚Äôs not their fault a few birds passed. I know it‚Äôs not their fault that the birds are sexed wrong. And I know they will make those things right! I just wish when the packing department put orders in boxes, that they would pay a bit more attention to the colors, when it comes to the B/B/S birds! The birds that I have are in good health and they are beautiful! (I rehomed all but 2 of the blacks) I had my heart set on the flock of my dreams Lesson learned, never order B/B/S birds from someplace that you can‚Äôt pick them out yourself ‚Äç♀

Although it's probably too early (she's only been with us four days now), I'm pretty sure our little cochin is going to be my favorite chicken in our flock. She is the most beautiful chick I've ever laid eyes on. The most gorgeous blue grey color, a definite show stopper! But the reason I love her to pieces is her demeanor....she is calm, sweet, and the ultimate snuggle bug who loves nothing more than to sit with me and cuddle or take a nap. I try not to show too much favoritism but little Violet makes it hard! Highly highly recommend this breed for someone looking for people oriented pet chicken.

Tootsie has more personality than all the other girls. She follows me everywhere and lets me know that she is there. Never quiet. Super sweet. And she runs like a wooden pull toy which is cute to watch.

We ordered 3 chicks and received one of each color: Blue, Black, and Splash (the 3 amigos, lol). They are awesome sweet docile birds and we are extremely pleased with our purchase. Will definitely order from here again.

Ours is very sweet , calm and timid. It does seem that she it on the bottom of the pecking order though :(- even under the bantams . A very pretty bird, lays at least 3-4 eggs a week

I love these birds they are very friendly and seem to always be at the bottom of the pecking order. They also make wonderful brooders. They however much better in a contained or fenced and secured area. I had 7 of these wonderful girls and a blue cochin rooster. They are all gorgeous and one actually adopted me. I don't know how to describe it other than she was my buddy and would not go into roost at night until I came out and let her jump on my arm. She would then nibble on my shirt and rub her head against my chest or shoulder. They are sweethearts even the roosters are friendly. My next goal is to have a reinforced coop with a run set up specifically for this breed. If you ever think about getting a cochin I would say do not hesitate

Our pullet is a sweet, docile bird. She does get a little broody. She won first place and Reserve Best of Breed at the 4-H fair, she's a pretty girl!
