Thank you for your 5 star review! We're so happy that your buff Brahma chick is doing well. We hope you'll continue to allow us to help with all your future flock care needs!
We are happy to hear that your baby is doing well and is a beauty as we expected! Buff Brahma chickens are known to be "late bloomers" and typically start laying eggs when they are between six to seven months old. She should start to lay soon but if she does not, please let us know. Due to the time of year, if she goes into a molt, this may delay the beginning of production as well. We look forward to helping you with any questions or concerns and hope you will let us know. We are here to help!
The Buff Brahma have a reputation for being a quiet and tame breed so it is not too surprising that your little one may be a bit shy right now. To encourage bonding, try picking her up from underneath instead of approaching from the top as due to being a prey animal they are a little skittish when approached from above. Treats are also a great way to bribe them to become cuddle bugs! My Pet Chicken has a great number of treats to use as well as little toys that you can use to entice them. You can also offer a bit of wet crumbles or use some scrambled eggs as a treat offering as well. Please let us know any time if you have any questions, we are happy to help!
We truly appreciate you sharing how your baby brahmas are doing! They are adorable little ones and grow into just wonderful birds to have in a backyard flock! Please let us know if you ever have any questions, we are happy to help!
“This is it folks. In my 10 years of raising hens I have never met a more human friendly bird. Gentle, curious, sweet, she followed us everywhere even though she had other hens she could have hung out with. She wasn't even afraid to stand up to my twenty-five pound cocker spaniel if he snuck out. This breed, in my experience is the perfect starter bird for first time hen keepers, and while I can't guarantee your girl will be like mine, generally I have found that chickens of the same breed keep the same general disposition. Her colors and pattern are gorgeous too.”
