“My 4 speckled sussex hens are just turning one year old, so I wanted to leave a review. From the 6 week stage when they arrived, they've been excellent urban back yard chickens, fine in the locked coop/run for most of the day. As pullets they were jittery and easily scared, but once they matured they became more willing to be handled, and we worked with them on this. They enjoy the ability to free range, which we've let them do since they were 3 months old. Two of them began laying at 22 weeks, and the other two followed along in the next few weeks. At one year old they are beautiful, tame, a little feisty, easy to ply with meal worms or food scraps. One went broody for a month. One pecked eggs for a few days but was quickly diverted. One likes to sneak up onto the deck and then fly down on top of unsuspecting people below. The 4 of them do fine in 36 square feet of coop/run, and range in a small urban yard. They lay about 0.82 eggs per hen per day of late. In terms of noise, they cluck, but also call loudly for a few minutes each day. They certainly let us know when something is wrong, but they cry "wolf" a lot as well. Super good purchase and I like this breed.”
