“I have a rooster (Colonel) and a hen (Claudia) (both 1 year old) and they have surpassed my expectations, based on the info I found online. My Colonel is SO GORGEOUS and an absolute gentleman (he has 23 hens, including bantams). He courts them nicely, is a second pair of eyes with my dog, watching the skies, and ALL the girls go in the coop at night now! He has brought order to chaos and has even adopted my ducklings, talking to them and making frequent “checks” on them! I was always scared of a rooster, but he is a delight to watch strut and gives me peace of mind because he is always watching.
Claudia is a DOLL! She is so curious and has taken to my ducklings, too, and can usually be found with them and the older ducks ha! Yes, this is a very large breed, but they are beautiful, Claudia lays big, pink-bloomed eggs, docile, and I won’t ever go without one in my flock! Please consider this breed-you won’t regret it! (Both were adopted and raised by my black Silkie, so I think that helped Colonel adjust and understand how to treat other chickens.)”
What a fantastic review of this breed, thank you, Emily! A good rooster is a blessing. If you get the opportunity, we'd love a picture of Colonel and Claudia. Thank you so much and know My Pet Chicken is here if you need anything.
“Our Bielefelder chick arrived healthy and is now 7 months old. She is the largest hen I have, but is middle of the pecking order. She is a great forager, very healthy and gets along with everyone including our roosters and dogs. She has started laying consistently as well. She is truly an all around great young hen.”
“She arrived with eyes sealed shut and has had watery eyes ever since. Over 10 days now. She is the largest chick we got and has been eating and drinking well. She is otherwise sweet and active, but I fear she arrived with possible health issues.”
