Hello Jonathan, Thank you for submitting this review of your Buckeyes. They sure are a pretty bird. Here's some additional little known information about the Buckeye. Buckeyes are an endangered breed worth preserving! They are also the only chicken breed of the American Class to have been developed by a woman in -- you guessed it -- "The Buckeye State," Ohio.
“Hi, this is the best place to buy baby chicks, they are healthy, beautiful, and great costumer service, l love it, thanks, I have 7 baby chicks they are jus perfect.”
“Strong chickens and they are not afraid of you at all. Have been coming up to me since they were babies. Looking forward to some good eggs from my girls”
Thank you for such a great review of these little babies! Buckeyes are a flock keepers favorite! My Pet Chicken is happy that we were able to help you in adding these great birds to your flock!
“We have one buckeye and will be our one and only ever. She is healthy and she is beautiful, but she is a bully and has been since the day she arrived. As a chick, she attacked the others constantly and had to be separated frequently. She would try to peck their eyes out and constantly was chasing and attacking the others. She started laying at 23 weeks and does lay a nice medium light brown egg 5 days a week. Her bullying reduced as she was integrated into the coop with a few older hens who are above her in the pecking order, but she is just not a very friendly hen overall.”
Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear your Buckeye has been a bully to your other hens. This breed is generally calm with other birds and friendly with humans. This breed does need some room, so she may get stressed with overcrowding. It is good she is proving to be an excellent layer! We hope she is calming down now that you have integrated her with some older hens.
Thank you Susan for taking the time to leave a review for your Buckeye chick. The rich mahogany brown coloring with dark gray tips on their tail feathers, definitely makes them a beautiful bird.
“I have gotten these chicks many times and they are my favorite every single time. I only buy friendly breeds and these stand out among them as the nicest. They are the only breed I would ever consider affectionate. They do not lay as many as other chickens but have been reliable. They are so sweet they can be picked on and they don’t always exercise caution. I just received 4 more of these baby chicks and they happily climb into my hands to be loved. Super nice.”
Thank you for the terrific review, Nicole. Buckeyes are a very underrated breed. As you mentioned, they are calm and friendly. A great addition to any flock!
“The little Buckeye is one of 9 chicks, now 1 week old, and I can already see that she's going to be one of the dominant ones. She's energetic and mischievous and likes to challenge the other chicks. She's friendly but it took her a few days to trust me. I can't wait to see what she will be like when she's grown up. Hopefully, she won't be a bully though. Some of the others do stand their ground when she challenges them, and she backs down.”
