“We love our Australorp hen. Just have the 1 but she's friendly and sweet, calm and curious. Nice chicken. She's our second favorite, after the Cuckoo Bluebar who is similar but overly friendly and mellow.”
“We bought an Australorp day old chick on My Pet Chicken back in April, along with a few other breeds. My chicks arrived prompt, healthy, and happy. They thrived and have been doing amazing ever since! My Australorp was one of the first to start laying (at 5 months old) and is my most consistent layer. She is super sweet, with the exception of bossing around my dog. I've had multiple people comment on how healthy and happy they are. SO happy with My Pet Chicken and in love with Australorps!”
“My birds are now 13 weeks old and I've just now been able to identify my rooster. I had ordered 8 pullets and 1 cockerel plus 4 Austra White pullets. All came in healthy, happy and spot on as ordered.
They eat out of my hand, they're rather friendly, including the rooster, they work and play well with each other. They get excited when I approach because it means a treat of squash, cukes, spinach, mealworms, scratch, etc.
Their iridescence pops in the sunlight, especially since there are 9 of them.
This is the first time I've ever experienced having chickens and I'm hoping one of them gets broody next year. While I got them for their egg laying, I fully expect them to live out their natural lives without artificial light in the winter. I love these birds.”
“We bought two back in 2015- I'll be honest- those two were wild chicks as babies and teenagers and young adults. One we lost at a year and a half of age- laying issues. The other is in her third year and is about as close to an ideal hen as one can get. She lays gorgeous extra large brown eggs - goes broody - raises babies- weans them ... goes right back to laying extra large brown eggs - she's probably raised around 30-40% of the chicks we've hatched. I was worried about her wild child ways when she first went broody at around 9 months, but she settled in and is a sheer pleasure whether she's sitting on eggs, raising babies or laying. A lovely lady!
We just got 2 more, and they've been super friendly - even though they were raised by a broody hen. They love to sit and have a chat and are always the first ones to jump in my hands. I can't wait to see how they do!”
“Olive is my only Australorp. Laying large light brown eggs at the same time every day. She‚Äôs my quietest hen, who doesn‚Äôt even bother announcing when she‚Äôs laying like my other breeds do. I love my Olive, and will definitely be getting more Australorps in the future.”
“We love our australorps SO much. We ordered two random brown egg layer assortments and got two of these babies! One ended up being a roo, but we LOVE him, so sweet and loves our girls so much. Our little girl just started laying her eggs at around 4 months old. She lays extra large, double yolked, cream colored eggs that put our barred rocks to shame. We love her even though she is very, very dumb -also, a little skittish but so sweet. She is usually about 30-60 seconds behind and gets rather nervous when she isn't with the others but all we need to do is yell her name and she runs over... cutest thing. Thanks MPC!!!!”
“My chick is happy and very healthy. She was the first one to the food bowl and is the sweetest thing in the world. I couldn't ask for a healthier/cuter chick.”
“We wanted 4 to start our adventure, but 7 was the minimum. All 7 arrived in great shape and are now 10 months old. The first ones started laying at Week 22 and 23. They've handled single-digit temperatures in Texas with only a minor reduction in laying (from 5-6 eggs a day down to 2-3). All seem healthy and forage aggressively when we allow them into the larger yard. I guess we should have handled them more as chicks, because only 2 of them will allow us to pick them up now as adults, but they are all docile and come flying when we have scratch grain and mealworms to spread around.”
