“I ordered 2 female black copper marans. Both arrived alive. Both are healthy and not aggressive. I put 3 stars because this breed is a hit and miss with mypetchicken. I've ordered many black copper marans through mypetchicken and only 1 out of 8 had the chocolate egg laying description. In all, this breed has always been a good layer laying every other day and has never been flighty or aggressive. Just don't expect to receive a chocolate laying egg layer from mypetchicken.”
“Bought two copper maran chicks about 1.5 years ago. One died from a hawk. The second won 1st in breed at our county fair. Decent layer. Definite slow down in laying in winter. Good egg color.”
We are so sorry to hear about your loss, we know that is never easy. What an honor to win 1st place, she must be a beauty! We would love to see a picture of her. Thank you for sharing!
“our coco is an absolutely spectacular pullet. she looks out for her smaller brooder-mates, and herds them away from the cranky older hens to keep them safe. she is friendly with me too, and will come right up for pets and cuddles. she started laying beautiful dark brown eggs right at 20 weeks, and has been a regular layer since then.”
“Our BCM was the largest of the six 6-week old pullets upon arrival and at 10 weeks old is still keeping up with our larger birds (Orpingtons) in terms of size. She is curious and brave when it comes to trying new things (food, enrichment, etc.). Her comb and wattle are already turning quite red and I suspect she may be our first to lay soon.”
“My marans is one of my smallest hens (I have a Birchen Marans that towers over her). She lays tiny little eggs that are dark, but not exceptionally dark. Nuni - the hen - is completely neurotic. It's fun to watch, but she's also gone broody a couple of times and just turned 9 months old. And once she goes broody it's at least a month before she lays again. Not what I was hoping for when I ordered a BCM, but based on other reviews it looks like others have had similar experiences.”
“Our most productive egg layer, our Black Copper Maran hen is also super friendly and a little bit of a trouble maker - she's always finding ways to sneak into the duck stall to eat their food! She's really great with our kids, allow them to pick her up, and is generally a super sweet chicken. Her eggs are beautiful chocolate brown, and she's got gorgeous feathers - black with hints of green when the sun shines. The only concern we've had is that her comb has gotten frostbitten - so she does require Vaseline when it gets super cold. Fortunately she's pretty amenable to it. Highly recommend this breed!”
“I ordered a 6week old Black Copper Marans last September . Last week at about 23 weeks old she started laying . So far , Iris has laid 6 eggs in 6 days ! I‚Äôve never had one do that before and I am impressed . She is a beautiful bird and loves to have me pick her up and pet her”
“I ordered 2 BMC chicks from MPC with a hatch date of July 26th. One sadly succumbed to a respiratory issue but the other start laying the soonest out of the 4 chicks ordered. In the order were 2 BMC, a Red Star, and Welsummer. The BCM laid her first egg on December 14th! That's under 5 months! Her first egg was lighter brown with deep dark speckles but the 2nd egg was more solid with chocolate brown with the same speckled pattern. Today is December 20th and she's laid her 4th egg in 6 days! The color is completely dark, so chocolatey dark. JUST what I was looking for and I'm smiling from ear to ear. Her personality is a bit more mischievous that others, if 1 chicken is out of the run, it's going to be her. I'm not sure if it's because she's so smart, or mischievous or both. She is not flighty or jumpy.
I'm in Arizona if you were wondering. I'm so so SO very happy with her. If you are shopping for DARK Chocolate eggs, shop no more. Buy from MPC. All of my chicks from here have been sweet, smart, and so very healthy. Will be ordering more! Love them so much.”
