“After we got 2 of these girls I read several places online that they are somewhat docile but not your If you are looking for a chicken friend go elsewhere. Really? My husband and I find that crazy because these Wyandottes are probably the friendliest chickens we have except maybe our Orpie. And we have chickens reputed to be sweet: Cochin, Favarolles, Silkies (and others). These are truly beautiful birds, calm, friendly and the first to come see you and sit on you when you come out. I love their big old beaks. Again, gorgeous chickens!! I am fairly new to chickens and I will tell you I am really not sure I see red or blue on these girls, but orange, black and smoky gray that is beautiful.”
“I ordered two blue laced red wyandotte chicks. One of the chicks died within a week of arrival, which is very rare for My Pet Chicken, and overall, I have been very happy with their survival rate. The other chick has grown into a large, friendly hen. However, her coloring is almost all white, with some very, very faint red tips. She is definitely not red, blue, black, or splash. Her body shape, comb, and legs look like a wyandotte. I'm not sure why I ended up with this color. She's a lovely hen, I just really wanted a laced wyandotte (any colors, really), not another all-white chicken.”
“Ordered a mixed flock of chicks in January and was especially looking forward to the blue-laced red. Not only is it a black-laced (which is unfortunate because you can never know with genetics) but it's also the absolute meanest chick of the 10. Probably the meanest chick I've ever raised and I've done quite a few. while the others are always happy to run right up - including my gold Wyandotte - this little sucker is constantly pecking, rearing, and jumping at my hand. grabbed me so hard on the skin between my thumb and pointer finger while I was giving treats, it actually drew blood. it's highly resistant to any of the gentling techniques I've done and is a tiny terror. the rest of the flock is all as sweet as can be. here's to hoping my top hen can knock some sense into her when we integrate the flocks, else there's going to be trouble. Overall, my experience with the breed hasn't been great and I, personally, wouldn't recommend. [The barred rock and Silkie are both sweet as pie though!]”
“She's about 10 weeks now and so far, so good. She is the most tame of the five pullets, by far. She comes running when she sees me and will jump on my lap/shoulders. She's fine with being picked up, and so fluffy! I got a splash and her coloring is coming in so beautifully.”
“My pullet is 10 weeks old, but so far she definitely looks to be a black laced. Hoping yet for a surprise as she further develops. Super sweet girl, but is on the bottom of the pecking order and is okay being a loner while free ranging. She seems like she gets along okay though no bullying at least.”
“While I‚Äôve been super pleased with all my purchases from MyPetChicken - all my birds have always arrived healthy and correctly sexed - and these two are no different - I‚Äôm a little disappointed in their appearance. I completely understand that a percent of all ‚Äúblue‚Äù are actually black, but both of mine are black and the roo has almost no red on him at all. He‚Äôs pretty much solid black.
I wouldn’t be disappointed if they were both black laced red, but since the roo is pretty much solid black, it’s a bummer.
I’d read that Wyandottes are one of the friendlier breeds, but the pullet is very very flighty. I can easily catch all my other chickens, but I have to have a second person to try and catch her because she flips out so much I worry she’ll hurt herself trying to get away. The roo is a different story, he’s still flighty... but I once I’ve caught him he calms down - whereas she fights like I’m trying to murder her.
I absolutely will still use MyPetChicken in the future. All my other purchases have been nothing less than 5 stars and whenever I have had to contact customer service it‚Äôs been an easy, quick experience.”
“We named our girl Lady Jewel and when you get yours you will know why. She is a big bird, sweet disposition, soft and fluffy and just gorgeous. I really regret not getting several, she is red laced with blue underpants that look like a frilly petticoat. She is a bird with an intellect and she hangs on every word you say. Make sure you get a few, too pretty and sweet not to. Terrific with kids!
Our Lady Jewel is very spoiled and you will spoil yours too. She won the local fair last year!”
