Baby Chicks: Double-Laced Barnevelder Female Reviews

4.6 Rating 28 Reviews
I love my sweet Bebe, the Barnevelder. She was timid and stand-offish in the beginning and has slowly warmed up. This may be because she is one of the lowest on the pecking order. She wouldn’t eat out of my hand or even come near me when handing out treats but I realized it probably had more to do with the other chickens than me. She did seem to develop more slowly than some of the hybrids I have and I was a little worried she was stunted, but that was not the case. She starting laying right at 20 weeks, pretty dark brown egg with speckles. She likes being around me when I go out in the coop and just yesterday she hopped up in my lap!

Awww! Bebe sounds adorable! Some little ones are a bit more timid and take time to warm up - especially as you discovered - when the other birds push them out of the way! We are happy that she has come around for you in her own time and has begun laying her pretty eggs! We hope for many wonderful years with Bebe and her flock mates! Please let us know whenever you have questions about them or their care needs - My Pet Chicken is here to help!

I am really hoping she is a hen. Short wing feathers are making me wonder. So adorable so will have to wait and see.

Your baby is so adorable and we appreciate you sharing her photo with us all! We certainly hope that there is no mistake and that your baby will lay beautiful eggs in the future but My Pet Chicken does have a guarantee for the possibility of an error. Typically, it is very difficult to determine gender just by sight or behavior until your birds are much older - our reporting window opens at 14 weeks of age through 22 weeks for breeds other than silkies (silkies are bit slower to mature so we give them a bit more time). Our Vent Experts examine the babies as soon as they hatch by looking at more than 15 little tiny parts in their vent and do their very best to make sure you receive the babies that you order. We have our guarantees available for review under "Refunds & Returns" at the bottom of the website if you would like to have more detailed information. And, of course, if you have any questions about this or anything with your flock, always feel free to contact us by phone, chat or email - My Pet Chicken is here to help and truly cares!

I purchased three chicks and all arrived healthy and were in my hands within 1.5 days. Out of my three chicks - the double laced Barnevelder is DEFINITELY the friendliest of the bunch even at a day old. Not flightly and lets me hold her. She is absolutely adorable and I've named her "Miss Pinecone". She is a super cute brown puff ball and was the least terrified of humans - I would highly recommend this breed.

Thank you Rhonda for your review on your Double-Laced Barnevelder. She should catch up in size to your other girls soon and be a wonderful hen.
