She is our boss. Starting to bully a little.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with your Blue/Black/Splash Orp! It sounds like the flock may be establishing their pecking order and bullying may appear to be a problem during this time. If it continues for too long or you feel you need to step in, there are a few suggestions in articles appearing in our Frequently Asked Questions section on the website, one of which is separating her from her flock mates for a few days to allow a break for the others and perhaps give her a little lesson in manners. If you have further questions, please do not hestitate to reach out. We are happy to help!

We have to agree these birds are absolutely gorgeous! Not only are they adorable as chicks but as they grow - stunning! You will surely be so very happy with their addition to your flock!

Our hen is a BIG beautiful splash orpington who lays beautiful cream colored eggs. Miss Lucy is by far the prettiest hen in our flock. We actually thought she was a rooster early on because she was twice the size of the other chicks we ordered. Turns out she was just a big lady. (She is twice the size of our two buff orpingtons!) Our hen is sweet but shy and definitely bottom of our flock; however, she is super calm and easy going. Definitely recommend orpingtons!

Thank you, Spring, for the wonderful recommendation and review! We are delighted to hear about Miss Lucy and really glad you didn't rehome her as a roo! Orpingtons are big bodied girls for sure but what they may lack in the pecking order, they make up for with charm!

Here's an update for my flock of chicks I purchased. The 22 that survived the shipping, only one pullet has died after getting sick about a month ago - not sure what she had. I do feed medicated feed - Purina Chick Starter. The rest are doing great at 5 months old! Now that the birds are old enough, I've discovered that I have 6 cockerels in the batch. All are calm, nice birds, but I'm going to have to sell four of them as I only need two. Now that they've molted and grown in their feathers and are almost as big as they will be, I've picked out the two I want to keep: one Blue and one Splash, who happens to be the biggest and most robust in the flock. I really like the flock over all as they are calm, beautiful birds, seem to cope okay in the heat (glad summer is over!) and am looking forward to some nice fresh eggs! Thanks for doing what you do! This is an ongoing story.

While we are happy to hear that your flock is doing well and are just as beautiful and healthy as we hoped, we were so very sorry to read of sexing errors on your order! We offer a live bird sexing error guarantee and we are able to refund you for any bird that has been incorrectly sexed, provided we are notified within the appropriate time frames. For breeds except silkies, that is between 14 to 22 weeks of the original ship date. Silkies take a bit longer to mature so they get a few more weeks and have until 19-30 from their ship date. We have reached out to you directly about your sexing error. Again, we are sorry for this error!

Both chicks are lovely and doing well. One is outgoing and curious, while the other is definetly the bottom of the pack and a little shy. At 2 weeks they are both healthy, happt, very sweet with unique personalities.

I got two of these little sweethearts. One turned out to be blue and the other splash. Big beautiful ladies with sweet personalities. The blue is two weeks older and is for sure at the top of the pecking order in my small flock.

The 26 chicks arrived on 22 April with only 4 not surviving, which is really pretty good. Once I got them drinking and eating their "Gro-Gel", they perked right up! They started out in a 110 gallon plastic water trough, and grew so fast I thought I was going to have to moved them to the hen house before they were three weeks old. The transition was a bit nerve-wracking, but they all adjusted well. I was impressed with the overall condition of these chicks, and how well they grew and feathered out. So far, knock on wood all are looking like "mini-Orpingtons" at 9 weeks. I highly recommend this hatchery: they also have very good customer service!

Orpingtons are always a wonderful bird to have in a backyard flock! They are perfect for first time flock owners since they are just like you described - they will become a lap chicken! Please let us know any time if you have any questions - My Pet Chicken is happy to help!
