“I get that there‚Äôs only a 50% chance you will get a frizzle, so I purchased two ‚Äúpullets‚Äù hoping at least one would frizzle. So far, neither seem to have that trait and are smooth-feathered. They are also both looking like roosters as they already have prominent red wattles and combs at just 5 weeks. I‚Äôm hoping I‚Äôm wrong because I paid the extra fee for females, but I guess time will tell and I‚Äôll have to contact customer service when I know for certain. I‚Äôll update as they get a bit older and when I know for sure. I know it‚Äôs a gamble purchasing day-old frizzle chicks as far as knowing if they will frizzle or not, but it would have been nice to have at least received one frizzle out of the two I ordered. Apparently that seems to be a trend with these chicks and had I read the reviews before I jumped at the opportunity to replace our beloved frizzled girl ‚ÄúBob‚Äù who suddenly passed earlier this year, I probably wouldn‚Äôt have ordered these chicks and instead ordered something reliable and true to breed as I‚Äôm limited on how many birds I can keep on my property. While our babies are very cute and healthy, and we are getting very attached to them, if they are indeed roosters I‚Äôll have to sadly rehome them as roosters are not allowed in the city limits where I live. Kind of bummed, but still hoping for sudden frizzled feathers and no crow. I‚Äôll update in a couple of weeks.”
“We ordered two chicks in our order in hopes one would frizzle and lo and behold they both have! They are sweet little (hopefully) girls so far and love to cuddle with each other and the lavender Orpington chick that came in with them. So far they seem robust and healthy and watching their little curly feathers grow in has been so fun!”
“I should have taken heed of the fact that most reviews here report that their chicks were not frizzled. Also, the comb and waddle development is looking suspiciously like those of a rooster. As I paid extra to have it sexed, I certainly hope that is not the case! I'm not allowed to have a rooster in my neighborhood. I will update this review when the absolute "verdict" is in--crow or no crow and/or "miraculous" frizzle development, or smooth-feathered as it now appears. I know the chances of that happening at hatch, but it is possible to tell if they are frizzled at 1 day old. I've purchased them before at that age, and there was no doubt. As I ordered only one and paid quadruple the cost for it, I wish that someone would have gone to the trouble to be considerate enough to make sure it was frizzled. As I said, I will update when I know for certain. For now, this is meant for others to take heed.”
“I got mine two years ago. She is absolutely adorable. She did not frizzle but that is 100% okay with me. Her names are Dark Knight and Princess Poof Butt. The first one is because despite her size she is extremely confident and thinks she is very big. She just roosts in the middle of the yard with the pigeons and just looks completely fine while all of the other big birds have to go hide in a corner. Princess Poof Butt because she is smooth and has very puffy tail feathers. My only problem with her is that whenever she goes broody she plucks a lot of her feathers. I think the reason for this is because she is small and does not think the eggs will be warm. We do not want chicks (do not even own a rooster) so it is a problem. She also lays a lot of (albeit small) eggs! Very cute bird.”
“We have a frizzle . She is very smart and has had a lot of close calls with hawks and the other chickens. Because she is so different, the other chickens would pick on her, so she has her own coop now and she hangs out with our Labradors when loose, the hawks won't get her now.”
“Daria was darling and sweet, feisty and wonderful. She came with a colorful variety of five other chicks about 4 weeks ago, give or take. She died Monday, no warning, no idea why. I know that sometimes chicks just do, but it was very sad. The other five, all different varieties, continue to thrive. I love MPC and will continue to order from you. But we were so sad about little Daria. Her little frizzling feathers looked like fluffy black petticoats as they came in. She will be missed.”
