Baby Chicks: Blue Silkie Bantam Female Reviews

4.1 Rating 36 Reviews
I ordered 4 chicks, 3 Silkies and one Sultan. On Monday evening around 6:00 pm I received notice that the chicks had shipped, and my post office called me at 9:00 a.m. the next morning to let me know they’d arrived. The chicks were all in terrific shape! Three days later they are healthy and happy little puff balls of joy! My blue Silkie is truly blue and such a fluffy sweetheart!

Received my 2 blue silkies this morning. Although I can’t tell for sure yet which I got but I believe one is a splash and the other a blue or black. My girls arrived healthy and happy! I love them so much already! Thank you for my beautiful new girls!!!

Our order was 5 silkies and 1 du uccle. I was able to get just one female blue/splash silkie . She is for sure a she , the runt of the group . When she first came in she looked off white and a grey’ish head . No a single spot on her and other than her head ..no signs of blue ! But as time went on her pretty coloring came in. Mabel has a pretty color pattern , just like the stock photo with a more grey tone to it . I’m super happy with the coloring . As for the feathers ? Her butt is fluffy but you can tell she’s not going to have that classic poof ball head/look we all know silkies can have . Not the desired feathering. She’s obviously not show quality and her feathering is worse than pet quality . Mabel is the most Spazzy least friendly chicken I’ve ever owned . I’ve calmly worked with her one on one since a few days old and she’s the same . Three of the birds she came with had health issues , two died , one loves with the eye condition she came with. The company did nothing when I contacted them about it . I paid high price for all females and three out of 6 were males ! One of the males I don’t even think was from the same hatch date . All of the silkies we got from my pet chicken aren’t very friendly . We got some really fabulous looking silkies from a good breeder and those babies are SO good looking and sweet ! If you want a good investment of good looking chooks , just go with a quality breeder with healthy parents .

I was lucky enough to check the MPC website on a day that the silkie number was updated (I became quite obsessed with getting a blue silkie this year) and I was able to get three BBS. I got three hoping of the three that one would be blue, and was planning on rehoming the other two to some other chicken savvy people looking for silkies in my town. MPC is the only place that I found that sexed the silkies, and this is well worth the extra money because where I live we are only allowed to keep hens. This also made rehoming the other two a dream for other people in my town that wanted fancy silkies but like me, didn't want to take the chance of a local straight run chick at a feed store. One of the silkies was blue, and she is quite stunning. she is bearded, and very fluffy, including her feet. She is mild tempered and friendly, and I couldn't be more pleased with her. The other two turned out to be bearded splash, and the families that they went to were both very happy. I also managed to get a buff slikie (Marge) at the same time and kept her, and my buff (Marge) and blue (Midge) love to hang around each other. They look like two really big lint balls when they are out and about... I am so pleased with my blue silkie Midge. My weird chicken collection is complete!

It’s always nerve racking on waiting for that package to come in the mail! But I received them a day earlier than I thought and all babies were healthy and happy! 4 weeks later they are all doing well. I received a blue splash with a beard. Couldn’t be more happier!

I have bought chickens from this company over 10 times and only ever had a couple die. I ordered 6 splash silkies and waited for them all year. only 1 survived out of the 6 i ordered. within a span of 48 hours they all died. I had a few other bantam chicks die as well but the rest of the group was fine. Maybe it was a rough delivery but I am very sad to not get my silkies. These were the ones I was waiting for. Now I know to order much more then 6 next time. :(

I now have ZERO baby silkie chicks. I went to the store to get some extra stuff to help the one that was struggling and got a call from my 13 year old son upset that the little blue one died. After getting home we turned our attention to the only one left....the splash. I started to notice that she wasn't acting like a day old chick should. She started to be lethargic and wasn't opening her eyes. She was walking around, but it was trying, slow and very sluggish. I warned my kids she might not make it through the night because her breathing started to look labored and around 4:30 this morning I went to check on her and she was no longer with us. So, I ordered 5 chicks and received 4. I now have no baby chicks and can only hope a reorder will be better the second time. Again, I will post another review once I receive a reshipment to let you know how it turns out. The chicks were beautiful little girls, but they were either sick or something else happened along the way. We will never know.
