“These are super cute, but required some specific care that I was unprepared for, I had to grind their food down even smaller than crumble, offer vitamins, and change out to a paper bedding because they were the only chicks that kept eating the fine shavings. Very sweet and adorable little bantams, but much more high maintenance than I was prepared for which lead to some losses. They seem to be doing better now that I've made several adjustments, If you've never kept Silkies before they're delicate little things and require extra care, so be prepared for that!
I would not recommend these simply because they are more high maintenance than I like for a chicken breed, not because of any issue with the chicks that were sent. They were very nice chicks and shipped with great care. I would recommend Cochins, either standard or bantam as an easier to get, and easier to raise alternative.”
Thank you for your feedback! We're glad to hear you found the Silkies sweet and adorable, but we understand the extra care they require can be surprising for new owners. Your insight about their delicate nature and the adjustments you made will surely be helpful for others considering this breed. We're sorry to hear about the initial losses, but it's great to hear they are doing better now. Silkies are indeed known for their unique needs, and we're happy you gave them the special care they required. Cochins are a wonderful, hardy alternative, and we appreciate your recommendation! If you decide to try other breeds in the future, we'd be happy to help find the right fit for your flock.
