Baby Chicks: Cuckoo Bluebar Blue-Egger Female Reviews

4.6 Rating 68 Reviews
We love our Cuckoo Bluebar. She is such a pretty girl. She isn’t a snuggly chicken, but still friendly enough and loves to come eat treats out of our hands. She always shows up when I’m weeding to help me look for grubs!

I received one Cuckoo Bluebar from My Pet Chicken, and she is just the neatest little chicken. She is bold and curious, not afraid of anything. Of all the chickens in my flock, she is definitely one of the top as far as her curiosity and following me around to see what I am doing. I am really glad we got her!

I have two of these girls. They both do not want to be picked up at all which really sucks if you need to doctor them. One is curious and will follow me around but if I make one move to pick her up she FLYS for her life lol. She’s super skittish. The other one is less skittish but still wants to run away and she’s constantly sneaking out of the fence or over it. They both have large floppy combs and lay really light blue eggs. Def will not buy this breed again.

We are sorry to hear that your little Cuckoo Bluebars are acting skittish. This breed is known to be friendly and smart while loving the opportunity to forage but are bred with some breeds that can be a bit flighty. Sometimes, just like us keepers, our little ones have different personalities. It often helps to tame these type of "prey" animals by using treats to associate you as the "bearer of great things"! This along with kindness, patience and effort should help make them more friendly toward you. My Pet Chicken has articles in our Frequently Asked Questions section and blog that will help flock keepers bond with their little ones when they are just babies. In addition, we are hopeful that it will help to share the knowledge that this breed will lay various hues of blue eggs and sometimes the hues will change as they mature or as the season progresses. Please feel free to contact us directly if you have further questions or concerns. We are happy to help!

We got 2 of these in a “blue layer variety” pack. One of them avoids people like the plague and the other one is the friendliest chicken ever. She plays tag with my son and gets so excited to snuggle. The only issue we have is she REFUSES to stay in the run. She’s always missing and won’t even come back to the coop at night a bunch of the time. Her longest time gone was 12 days and then she re-appeared! No idea how she didn’t get eaten!! She also hides her eggs and we just randomly find them on our property. Definitely wouldn’t get this kind again but she’s my sons best friend…lol…so as long as she stays alive she can live here.

Melissa, it sounds like you have a couple of characters. We often hear that chickens of the same breed are expected to have the same personalities. Your girls go to prove that this is not the case and that they all are free-willed and unique. The one that is your son's BFF is a lucky girl to have so much love. Fingers crossed that she mellows a bit with age and goes in at night like a good girl.

I got this chicken in October 2023…she is beautiful but hasn’t started laying yet but I’m expecting by March! She is the most flighty and avoids my interaction with her compared to all the other chicks I’ve raised that are same age. Still excited but I like to handle mine and can’t touch her.

Thank you for taking time to give a review of your Cuckoo Bluebar Blue-Egger! It sounds like she is an active girl who hopefully will calm a bit once she starts laying in a couple of months.

I got three of these silly girls last spring. They are so fun to watch and are extremely curious! I only have one with a floppy comb (Flopsy) and one with a head tuft (Mopsy) and Giblets is the nosy one! lol. They lay beautiful light blue sturdy eggs, but they are for sure the smallest eggs from my several breeds. Make up for size in quality though! Love these girls!
