“We got 2 of these in a “blue layer variety” pack. One of them avoids people like the plague and the other one is the friendliest chicken ever. She plays tag with my son and gets so excited to snuggle. The only issue we have is she REFUSES to stay in the run. She’s always missing and won’t even come back to the coop at night a bunch of the time. Her longest time gone was 12 days and then she re-appeared! No idea how she didn’t get eaten!! She also hides her eggs and we just randomly find them on our property. Definitely wouldn’t get this kind again but she’s my sons best friend…lol…so as long as she stays alive she can live here.”
Melissa, it sounds like you have a couple of characters. We often hear that chickens of the same breed are expected to have the same personalities. Your girls go to prove that this is not the case and that they all are free-willed and unique. The one that is your son's BFF is a lucky girl to have so much love. Fingers crossed that she mellows a bit with age and goes in at night like a good girl.
“I got this chicken in October 2023…she is beautiful but hasn’t started laying yet but I’m expecting by March! She is the most flighty and avoids my interaction with her compared to all the other chicks I’ve raised that are same age. Still excited but I like to handle mine and can’t touch her.”
Thank you for taking time to give a review of your Cuckoo Bluebar Blue-Egger! It sounds like she is an active girl who hopefully will calm a bit once she starts laying in a couple of months.
“I got three of these silly girls last spring. They are so fun to watch and are extremely curious! I only have one with a floppy comb (Flopsy) and one with a head tuft (Mopsy) and Giblets is the nosy one! lol. They lay beautiful light blue sturdy eggs, but they are for sure the smallest eggs from my several breeds. Make up for size in quality though! Love these girls!”
“We love our Cuckoo Bluebar! She is very curious and sweet. She follows me around like a puppy and observes everything I am doing. She was the first of our flock to lay at 19 weeks. We are so happy we added her to our flock.”
“I have 3 of this breed 2 have very defined barring the other one not so much- I absolutely love their floppy comb they are silly. I own over 150 birds- I go give treats everyday these 3 hens are pretty high in pecking order and they know who I am but are very flighty if I try and catch them they are a look but don’t touch bird. Which is fine with me. My girls just started laying two will use a nesting box the other lays somewhere different every day with her rooster on stand by it irritates me that she watches me collect the egg and won’t lay there again - the eggs are a beautiful light aqua color with very nice bloom that looks amazing next to a dark brown egg it just pops out at you it’s gorgeous. I absolutely adore this breed’s beauty n silly floppy comb I just bought the assortment hoping for more - I’d like to buy a rooster will they breed true or no because it’s a First generation cross??”
“I have two of these lovely ladies in my flock. If anything at all catches their attention, they will peck it! These sisters spend almost every moment of the day side by side. They’re adorable dozing in their comfy dirt pits together! They hatched 3/6 and began laying about three weeks ago. Their poofy heads are so funny to watch!”
Thank you for this thoughtful review of the Cuckoo Bluebar Blue Eggers! They are a very smart and friendly breed that enjoy their time outside as you see by their dirt bathing :-) We are so happy for you and your flock! Please let My Pet Chicken know if we can ever be of assistance to you or your flock! We are happy to help!
