“I purchased this coop for my 4 chicks. They are currently still teenagers and not full grown yet but seem to really like the coop. I think once they are full grown, 4 is a bit tight. The coop itself is super cute and looks great. Took me a good amount of time to assemble solo. Also I weather proofed the coop after I assembled which was a GIANT mistake. If you want to weather proof, do it prior to assembly.
Things I wish I had thought about prior to choosing this coop:
1. I'm 5'6 and cleaning the inside of the coop and run is not an easy task. I use a doggy pooper scooper to try to clean everything but its very hard to reach all the corners, specially when the girls are young and their poop is still very small.
2. The nesting bars inside the coop - I feel like the two bars are too close together. I've had people suggest I take out one of the bars. They are also not secured which my rambunctious girls always manage to dislodge one of the bars and I have to keep putting it back in place.
3. The wire is only stapled on and you need to reinforce all the way around if you have predators. I bought metal zip ties and secured the wire ALL around the whole coop. (Another thing to do prior to assembly). I have a coworker with the same coop and the staples in the wire wasn't strong enough to prevent a coyote from demolishing his flock.
4. The roof to the run doesn't open so its not too easy to refill food and water unless you put both close to the door.
5. The wood isn't the best quality, some of the connections for mine the wood split when I put in the screw or the screws provided were too short so it doesn't really secure the piece to the coop.
6. For me the locks are very easy to open and close. I added extra locks that are harder to open.
7. If you have strong winds like I do (Santa Ana winds) the roof of the coop will blow open. Imagine my panic when I got home from work one day to see the roof wide open. Luckily the girls didn't try or didn't know they could fly out. Or what if a predator just crawled in? I have added a lock to the roof now.
Overall, I am happy with my purchase and my girls are happy. If you are very tall or don't have a short kid to go clean the inside for you, I would consider a full walk in coop.”
“This coop is very well made and easy to put together. I would rate it more for 3 full sized chickens Perfect for raising little ones until they can be mixed with full grown birds at 16 weeks. I have 4, 10 weeks birds in now and they are happy.”
“Easy to put together and well described, although I don‚Äôt feel it will last very long. The wood is very soft and has already gotten a little lopsided within a couple of months.”
“awesome coop for ducks or chickens.. does need to be painted, manly roof, I have 3 ducks in mine for the night and don't mind it at all. Very well made and easy to put together.”
“I bought this coop for three bantams and it is the cutest coop ever. It went together quickly and easily. We coated it with waterproofing and set it next to the big coops. It looks great in the yard and the chickens seem very happy. Am thinking of buying another one as a starter coop for baby chicks.”
