Hi Bonnie, Thank you for your review! We are happy to hear you are enjoying your Cozy Coop Heater!

We have some very old hens and some very young hens and thought that a bit of extra heat could be good for them. This heater is perfect and it didn't take any time for them to figure out to get directly in front to benefit from the gentle heat!

Our order was shipped very quickly. We haven't tried out the heater yet because of the season, but we are confident that it will be what we need!

I wasn't sure this would work for baby chicks. I initially bought it as a backup in case I needed it for the coming winter. Having said that, the baby chicks took to it right away even more so than the traditional one they could crawl under. It warms up fairly quickly but it is always best to have it plugged in and getting up to temperature before your chicks arrive home. My coop set-up was a deep wooden box that insulates fairly well. So, we never needed to use the higher of the 2 settings. When they were 1-5 days old, they would rest right next to it. As they grew, they figured out if they wanted to stay right next to it or rest a few inches away. The product is very sturdy and I was never concerned it would knock over. The older they got, they liked hopping up and roosting on it. Lots of loud chirps as they fought for positioning. Even as juvenile birds when they no longer needed the heat source, it was the preferred roost and it stood up to their added weight. As winter approaches, I may find a second use in their adult coop.

If you want an easy way to raise chicks then get this heater and the pop up pen brooder. I couldn't be more pleased with the 2 together. The heater doesn't really pump out heat and heat the pen but the chicks lie right up against it to keep warm when they need to. According to my anemometer the temperature at 4 inches away is 95.7 degrees and about a foot away 88.2 degrees. It doesn't really do much at the opposite end of the brooder- I have the heater inside the coop for the birds. And no the heater doesn't cook or burn the birds at all when they lie against it. I highly recommend this heater as the birds will go closer or move away from the heater as necessary and it will not cook the pen at all. It's perfect for raising chicks. Again, I couldn't be happier how easy raising my orpingtons with the pop brooder and cozy heater is. If you want a simple way to raise your chicks buy this combo. You will not be disappointed.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Cozy Coop Heater! You are so right in that this and the pop-up brooder are excellent for raising your little ones! The Cozy Coop Heater is safe to use and perfect for your chicks or chickens to "cozy" up to when they need some warmth but doesn't over do it and allows for an area when they want to cool off a little. We hope My Pet Chicken will be able to help you in the future!

This is exactly what we needed for the young chicks while they are in the enclosure in the house. We are planning to use this in the coop come winter. We are using it with the feet; it is very sturdy.
