Oh my gosh, I can't love them more!! They are the goofiest of all my ducklings with a huge personality. They like to play and follow their fellow ducklings around. They seem to be more of a follower than a leader. They are very inquisitive and seem to watch the other ducks before joining the fun!

We loved our two crest ducks. So cute with their little poof heads. We noticed they seemed “slow” as they were getting older. They seemed weaker. One day one of them was slower than usual and a couple hours later she died. Our other crest is still living but she’s also still extremely clumsy, very slow moving, and her head tilts to the side (so did the other crest’s.) she can hardly keep up with the rest of our flock and I sometimes have to help her up and down the ramp to go home. After research, it turns out the white crested duck is known for health and neurological issues, their poof grows out of a fat pad that covers a gap in their skull, the fat pad is supposed to help protect the brain but it pushes down and puts pressure on the brain. As much as I love watching these cute and silly looking ducks, I will advocate for breeders to no longer breed this particular breed. It is cruel. We are upping our lone crest’s B vitamins as I read it MAY help make life just a tiny bit better for her. But it is very stressful watching her suffer and waiting for her to possibly randomly die one day. Please stop breeding these!

Brittnie, We are so very sorry for your loss and can completely understand your sadness and frustration. The crested gene, as you mentioned, is a genetic mutation that can be traced back several hundred years. It can be expressed in all domestic breeds except for Mallards. Both White and Black Crested Ducks are accepted varieties for exhibition in the American Poultry Association. Our breeders adhere to ethical guidelines to ensure the health of the babies that we ship, such as avoiding the breeding of crested to other crested ducks and performing tests on our breeding stock that have been recommended by a trusted European Institute to prevent morbidity issues. We do make note of any such reports to watch for patterns of issues and have rarely received reports regarding our White Crested ducklings. According to our records, your ducks are about 8 months old. There may be other medical or environmental factors at play. It would be a good idea to rule out such possibilities to safeguard the health of your remaining ducks. Our team is committed to assisting you during this challenging time. We will reach out to you directly to provide support and address any further questions or concerns you may have.
