“I love this breed! Thet have very pretty feathering like a pheasant and a little tuft on their heads. very sweet and lays Adorable medium sized light blue eggs. One of my favorite breeds.”
“Although I am not 100% sure which chick is the Cream Legbar and which is the Partridge Olive Egger, I believe our little Astrid (darker and smaller) is the CL and Chesnut (brown and larger) is the POE. Both are awesome. Astrid is the second smallest chick of seven and is incredibly smart. While the others announce it when they get a morsel of a treat, she grabs and then quickly and quietly goes off by herself to eat. Her BFF's are Chestnut and Spot, who are both much more assertive. Spot (the Barred Rock) makes sure that Astrid gets everything she needs. Chesnut is also very sisterly. She is our most coordinated chick. Always the first to try out new features in the brooder. By day seven she was flying onto a perch I put in there for them. Both are happy, healthy, and wonderful.”
What adorable little chicks! These breeds do look remarkably similar as chicks, but the differences will be more pronounced as they get older and are fully feathered in.
“My hen is missing a crest. Which is fine. But she only laid for 2-3 months. They were gorgeous, big turquoise eggs. But then she seemed to stop laying. We started finding strips of membrane around the coop and smashed eggs with barely any shell layer on them. She's been laying soft shell/thin shell eggs ever since, despite layer feed, oysters and calcium supplements. No other hens have this problem. Something seems to be wrong with her shell gland. And after 3 months of this, I've lost hope that she'll ever lay a normal egg again.”
