“We received our Red Star in May of 2023. She is now a healthy 13 month old hen, who has reliably provided us with 4-5 large eggs/week since she was 17 weeks old (even through our Michigan winter, WITHOUT added heat or lights). She gets along well with the other hens and enjoys being with people too :-).”
Ah! The Golden Buff (Red Star) breed is a prolific egg layer and as you've experienced, will continue to lay even when all the other girls stop for a break! They tend to be friendly little ones as well and will sometimes even become the "lap chicken" if given the opportunity! “I received one of these girls back at the end of September. She's 22 weeks old and laid her first egg today! I'm so excited! I've been planning for these girls' arrival for almost a year and we finally received our 1st egg!
Now to the actual hen, she's been nothing but fun, she's super sweet (the only one to let my kids and myself pick her up and pet her), very docile, and pretty quiet which is good for me having neighbors close by. The 4 girls were packaged very well, they all arrived alive and thrived with us. When the post office called letting me know that they were there, I could hear them chirping in the background. My wife went and picked them up immediately and got them home and in the brooder. Watching all of them grow has been a really cool experience for my entire family!”
