“This is a beautiful little bird that adds a lot of color and personality to a flock, but be prepared for non-stop clucking. They don't produce that many eggs and not that often. I would say if you want a bird purely for ornamental purposes, this is a good bird, but otherwise not the best. They are not that friendly and they are flighty. It's almost like a game hen.”
“Of my 12 birds ordered, half are Golden Campines. I love these birds for their inquisitive and friendly nature. They are a week old now and they jump up on a perch when they see me coming. They‚Äôre the first to try new things.
Four of my chicks are well marked and a good size. Two are small with very sloppy markings, and one is by far, the smallest of all my chicks, even smaller than my Egyptian Fayoumis. This chick also has a deformed foot with curled toes. I splinted the foot for the first three days and while it is improved, it is noticeably misshapen. S/he gets around just fine on it and seems to be eating well and able to perch, but I will definitely watch it for quality of life and it will never be allowed to breed so I hope it‚Äôs not my roo!”
“Out of the eight chickens (all my very first flock, with a variety of breeds!) my girl Scarlett immediately turned into a favorite. She's nearing a year old now and she cracks me up on the daily (they all do, really). She's the top bird, was the first to lay an egg, is talkative and curious, and always flies up to my shoulder whenever I have treats for everyone. She is independent and brave, not afraid of people, and she gets along so well with all the other girls. Love her so much!”
“My Campine Ziggy is the sweetest girl. She‚Äôs very curious and talkative, always following me when I‚Äôm outside. I was surprised that she‚Äôs at the top of the pecking order due to her small size. The other birds love to follow her as she forages. Highly recommend adding to your flock.”
“I just ordered more. I've had these birds for years and they are so smart. You can see it in their eyes- always discerning. The roosters are gentle and low on the pecking order. I had one that would jump into my lap if I patted my leg- like he was a dog and the one we have now will fly up onto my husband's shoulder (Pretty Boy- and that he is!). My hens always love these sweet boys and they lay well, too. I would never have a flock without these guys. They are predator resistant and can fly (like most of the breeds I prefer). Awesome chicken and also rare so worth supporting this breed!”
“We ordered four Golden Campines and they are beautiful hens that lay faithfully. They don't want to be picked up but otherwise they are sweet hens and we love having them in our flock.”
“I have a couple Campines, they started laying small eggs very early, and barely touched the feed that my other hens loved. They preferred to forage. They still seem to have something in commons when their ancestors..... flight! As I've commonly found mine 10-15 ft up in a tree! They seem to do this only when relaxing during the day, and they are just as ready as any other hen to return to the coop at night.”
“I have 3 hens and 2 roos they are 29 weeks old. All 3 hens are laying, my roosters get along most of the time. They are a funny bunch very talkative a little flighty but will eat from my hand and if I have something really yummy have NO problem jumping on my lap my shoulder or even in the bowl to get some goodies. They are very beautiful my one rooster Eli is hen feathered as he should be (according to book of standards) my other Roo Zolton has all kinds of rooster feathers both are very handsome. I only ordered one rooster but I am glad I have both because of the differences. wolud love to share some pics but not very tech smart. They are all lovely but a busy bunch like to run, but almost always come when called back to the coop.”
