I like it. My chicks do well with it. I believe it is safer than a heat lamp, which I have used, but no more. I recommend it.

This heater is awesome ! My hens are 7 months old and tolerate the cold well, but we have some severe cold nights below zero. I purchased the 48 inch size and it is large enough for 16 chickens to snuggle under. I like the fact that I don't have to worry about a headlamp anymore. I was always afraid of a fire and it would keep the chickens up and some hen picking would go on. The heater is well made and came with chain to hang up. I will also be able to use it with my next batch of chicks.

I hatched ten chicks and suspended this in their cage - it worked perfectly and they loved it. It doesn't heat up the room either, so that's a great bonus IMO - the targeted warmth lets them decide if they want to be under it or out and running around. No danger of being too hot! My only regret is that I didn't get the larger one, because now I want to put it out in the main coop for the bigger girls.

I bought this for chicks coming late February, however we have had such cold weather I hung it in my hen house for the girls. I plug it in at night time, they seem to be very cozy on their roosts.

We're in Vermont and the temperature is below zero this week. These keep our 40 girls warm, we've got two of the large size heaters in our coop above the roosts. They are more ambient heat, keeping the hen house warm, but not baking and radiating like the red heat lamps we replaced. I like that it doesn't produce any light--we were getting sick of the roosters crowing all night long anyway. Plus it feels a lot better to not always be rolling the dice with a coop fire.
