Baby Chicks: Lavender Orpington Female Reviews

4.6 Rating 67 Reviews
She’s a gorgeous bird. She’s also a total basket case and a bully. She pants a lot when we are near, which at first I thought was due to illness but now as nothing else seems to be wrong, I suspect she’s just an anxious bird.

Chicks were born on Valentines Day, shipping to Ga. I picked them up as soon as I got the message they were delivered (ten minutes). They were clean, cozy and very well packaged. The order contained 2 Red Star and Two Barred Rock as well. As soon as I took them out of the box, I had a hunch one was a rooster. He was bigger and his head was wider. Four months later, he is waking us all up at 6. I planned to get a rooster when the girls turned six months old. Sterling is a pretty good boy, as far as roosters go and he is stunning. The girls are are beautiful, sweet and smart. I have been offered a refund for Sterling, but I have not been able to get the pictures of him to them. Perhaps I could just call them at 6 a.m. and hold the phone up to his beak. If not for him, this would be five star. It's also not just the cost of the bird, but all the feed to get to the day you can prove he is a he. One of my other birds (barred) has a bad foot. We could never straighten it out, but she gets around fine and is a beautiful girl. They all love to follow me and some like to be held

Named Heather, our Lavender Orpington is a fluffy, modest girl. She sometimes forgets to preen, which gives her a rather untidy look, but that’s alright. She lays small, elongated tan eggs and has enormous feet. She loves to jump up on laps and will lounge there blissfully, although she usually manages to step in some mud or something worse just before doing so…oh well! We all have our faults. She is a nice, big girl, love her!

I have ordered the Lavender Orpingtons from this website, and they were super cuddly as soon as the package was delivered. I have super healthy chickens that are growing and thriving, and alive Lavender Orpingtons. The Lavender Orpingtons are my favorite chicken now after getting those in, I thought the polish chickens and silkies were super cuddly and sweet, but the Lavender Orpingtons are already sweeter!!

Let me start by saying I am very happy with our order of 5 chicks from MPC. We received our tiny chicks in April and now by October they are all healthy girls laying wonderful eggs. Our lavender orpington is a beautiful part of the flock, everyone comments on her unique color. She is big and friendly, started laying around 6 months, she's also very friendly with my toddler and lets her pick her up or feed her by hand. We couldn't be happier.

Out of the seven babies I ordered, two were lavender orpingtons. One of those died the morning after I got them. The other one (now six weeks old) is sweet and pretty but she’s always been thin and doesn’t seem as hardy as the other breeds in the flock. She just doesn’t seem as animated or energetic. They eat only the best food and are taken very well care of so it’s not by my doing. I sure hope she lives. It was pretty sad losing the other one. 🥺

I ordered 2 lavender hens and one roo, a copper marans, white cochin, partridge olive egger and green queen. They are 24 weeks old today. They arrived in great condition and grew and developed well. The orpingtons are beautiful. One hen developed a fluffy loose hind end and the other a sleek rear. The rooster is stunning. Last week with no warning or sign of health issues, the lavender just dropped dead. No vent issues, no injuries, no blood, no eggs developing, just poof gone. She hadn't started laying yet and did not have any egg development started. Has this been a more common issue with the lavender genetics? It's always hard to lose an animal, but usually they're is some explanation. Otherwise, very happy with the other 6 chickens.

Our Lavender Orpington is just three weeks old and is already the sweetest lap chicken. She loves to be held much more than our 3 other chicks and would sleep in our palms all day if we let her. She makes me understand why some people keep their chickens in their house- she’s as cuddly as a cat. Absolutely love this chick. Looking forward to many years of chicken snuggles!
