“Along with 9 other chicks I got the Lavender color and she‚Äôs so beautiful! All arrived cheerfully chirping! No losses! Every baby Alive! It‚Äôs so hard to say who is who yet! But I love all the colors in the box! Like a Box of chocolates! I‚Äôm tickled pink!! I‚Äôm definitely purchasing another box of baby chicks again soon! Meanwhile I can‚Äôt wait to see this group grow up in a couple of weeks! Wish I can take a photo”
“My sweet new baby whom I named Lucy is adorable! She is the most pretty purple-gray color as her feathers have started coming in and very healthy and friendly. She‚Äôs very good with the 5 other chicks I ordered and loves to cuddle with them, especially the Blue-Splashed Marans I named Ethel. Very pleased with the quality of this chick.”
“I got six chickens from the June 17th hatch day so my ladies aren't quite laying yet but I'm sure they will soon! My Lavender Orpington is named Hippolyta and although she is not the top of the pecking order, she is more brave than the other ladies. When I leave the door to their enclosure open, she will follow me out into the yard and look for bugs while the other girls peck around right by the gate and don't come out much farther than that. She is friendly and likes to keep an eye on everything I'm doing outside. I also love her purple colored feathers. She has that classic chicken body style, too.”
“In my flock of 10, my lavender orpington Margaret is by far the biggest and calmest chicken I have! Although she is a orpington, it barley shows when looking at her. She stands about 2 inches taller than my two buffies, and she has very curly feathers almost like she has the frizzle gene in her! Despite her size, Margaret is super calm around everyone and never bullies the other chickens. She also is really good around kids. I would highly recommend adding a lavender orpington to any flock!”
“I have three Lavenders they are a little over a year old now, two hens and a rooster. They are just darling they always run up to me when I come outside and the two girls jump in my lap (or occasionally on my head lol) when I sit outside with them. My big boy is slightly different but that may be because he is a rooster and the dominate male of the flock. He doesn't jump at me or my neighbor that gives them treats occasionally, but anyone else he will run after and follow them to check them out and if he deems them as a threat either pecks at them or jumps at them. there have been times where he jumped at the stuff I am holding, such as a backpack with keychains on it or a coat that I wasn't wearing, but it seems more like he was trying to get the intruder off of me. Some people have said that its just him being a jerk and not any other reason, but when you are with your chickens long enough you can understand them better than those who come and go.
Since the beginning of spring I was able to hatch some of their chicks so its exciting!!! Their colors are fabulous and the hens plums remind me of giant petticoats lol”
“I have two of these girls in my backyard flock. They were the chicks I was most excited to receive out of my whole order! As babies they were smaller than the other standard sized chicks I received but they were healthy and strong. As adults they are just as big as the rest. Their feathers are a lovely pale blue/gray with bright red combs. They are calm and tolerate handling well, though they are not quite as friendly as my Buff Orpington. They lay lovely pale brown eggs.”
“This is not a review on My Pet Chicken as a company. Just on the breed alone. I only have one LO and she has been flighty since the day she arrived. Despite being handled daily as a chick she still runs from everyone. She aggressive towards the other hens and she over preens her feathers so she constantly looks roughed up. She didn't start laying until 26 weeks and eggs are very pale similar to my Barred Rock. Only positive is she appears to be healthy.”
“I ordered my lav orp because of the friendly factor. I got 4 different breeds of chicks and she was the most skittish. She is now about 4 months old and still the least friendly but I have faith with time she will come around. She and the others are all beautiful and healthy. I have others that were not super friendly at first but with time they do come around.”
