Ducklings: Pekin Female Reviews

4.8 Rating 99 Reviews
Our Daisy Duck is now 7 months old. Of all our ducks she is the most friendly. Though as most ducks she is shy but she is less shy than our others. She has been known to sneak up behind me and nibble my bum. If she's feeling very brave she will nibble my fingers. She is the first to sound off happy quacks at my presence. She is a steady and regular layer. She lays the largest of our duck eggs. Her first month of eggs were all double yolks. Now her egg production has settled into it's routine she lays normal single eggs.

Funny how things turn out. I bought 5 ducklings a year ago, the intention was to harvest for meat, but a fox took two. We completely lucked into having a drake and two hens so we kept them. We have 2 eggs a day, and we have a 2percent-er that has the green tint. We are now hatching our first ducklings from our flock for meat.

My son wanted ducks so along with a Golden 300 we got 2 female pekins. They grew super fast and you can tell they are raised for meat production. They overheat more than our other duckling and required more supplemental niacin due to their growth rate. They are over 6 weeks old now and fully feathered. So big and soft and fluffy! They mostly forage now that they're older and don't eat much feed, although they aren't as good at bug hunting as our other duckling. One of the pekins is very chill and quiet and the other is loud and let's you know how she feels all the time! We love their unique personalities and are very happy with our purchase! All 3 got here safely and quickly and have grown healthy with no issues. We will definitely use this site again should we find the room for more ducks!

Cuddly yellow babies arrived. They are about 6 weeks old now. Beautifully white feathered, almost completely now. Ducks are definitely different than chickens. They are messier and require lots of drinking water and food. They seem to be a bit more timid than chicks, but they are probably smarter. They are certainly fun to watch and grow extremely fast.

Ordered two pekin ducks. First time one died in transit. They replaced it but I had to purchase another for transit. One of those ducks ended up having an issue, it wasn’t growing after 2 weeks was significantly smaller and weaker and ill looking. We ended up having to put it down because it looked like it was constantly in pain, we couldn’t tell if it was completely ill or had a genetic problem and we didn’t want to risk illness to the flock. Customer service was great, I just wish 2 of the 4 ducks I had ordered survived.
