Baby Chicks: Partridge Cochin Female Reviews

4.5 Rating 30 Reviews
These girls are just beautiful and soft and cuddly. They follow us around and want to be picked up. Willow has a sweet curious personality and she has had some serious lap time. Thumper got her name when she was a new chick. She used to swing on the thermometer string making a thumping noise when she tapped the side of the chick pen. She still likes to use the MPC swing in the run and she is a lap chick too. We also have Lily and Daisy our white Cochin girls and they are doll babies too. We are getting more Cochin's for sure in blue and silver.

We got one of these in a rare breed assortment. She has become my favorite chicken because of her sweet, docile personality and her fun look. Cochins are one of the sweetest, friendliest breeds to own.

My two Cochin hens Lizzy and Jelly are absolutely endearing! They have such a pretty plumage and love being held! They have a big appetite each day and are very curious birds!

My partridge Cochin hen is so pretty. She filled out wonderfully and her feathers are so pretty and shine green in the sun. She started laying small brown eggs at 34 weeks. She is the last to start laying in my flock of six. Downside is she doesn’t have the Cochin personality I read so much about. I didn’t need another brown layer but really wanted a friendly lap chicken so I ordered her. She seems annoyed all the time. She is always grumbling and very standoffish. She is also at the bottom of the pecking order and I often have to feed her away from the other because she doesn’t stick up for herself. I know every chicken is different but I’m not impressed with this late layer who wants nothing to do with me. Good thing she’s pretty!

My chicks are 16 weeks old and starting to look like real chickens. Leeroy, my boy, is gorgeous, with rich, gleaming colors and a docile demeanor. Robin and Goose, the girls, are both beautifully marked, with Robin more of a red tone and Goose more chocolatey. Robin is a bold bundle of sass who likes to stare at my dogs and make them nervous, while Goose is a lurker...I cannot get a picture OF Goose, but she appears in nearly every picture I take of my chickens. They make me smile every time I go outside.

D'artagnan is the perfect rooster. When the flock is out in the yard and they see me, they come running over with Dart leading the way. He is very watchful of his girls and always looks up when he hears a strange bird. He is very tolerant of my two Yorkies and lets them come up and stand right in front of him. He looks and acts more like a fluffy dog who enjoys treats and head rubs. His feathers are lovely and he is super quiet. I've never heard him crow, but he can get very chatty, especially when he thinks he'll get a treat. I was hesitant about getting a rooster, but getting a Cochin was a great choice!
