“Our Swedish Flower Hen, Trillium, was unable to stand properly when she first came in, a little research showed that she had curled toes. Some scotch tape and cardboard did the trick though, and she was actually running about with the others in a little while! It was great. She grew nicely and when we let her and her siblings out for their evening ‚ÄòOut Time‚Äô she excelled in grasshopper catching. She is now about one year old and lays fairly well, she also went broody her second summer (unfortunately for her there was no rooster in the house at the time!) Trillium runs to us whenever we hold out our arms and happily wiggles her head up and over our shoulders. She is in constant competition with Sunshine, a mixed breed hen of the same age. Sunshine has to be sneaky instead of feisty- she would stand no chance in a fight with Trillium! All in all, Trillium is a great addition to our flock.”
“I bought 3 swedish flower hens, who are now 14 weeks old, from MPC and they are seriously the sweetest things ever! I have four easter egger hens from a farm near me and these swedish girls are so much more social, curious, and friendly than my EE's. These girls run to me constantly (with or without a treat in hand) and they will climb into my lap and hunker down for a nap. I love these chicks so much!!!”
“OK! I have had a lot of chickens but never one as friendly and curious as her. Selma comes when called and jumps on my lap. She loves to be gently held. LOVE this hen!”
“Wow, this is the sweetest little chicken we've ever had!! She is a few weeks old at this point and a tad smaller and lighter than her standard counterparts that we ordered with her but so pleased. The kids all love her and she hops up on our arm and nestles right in for a nap. She doesn't not want to leave our hand when we put her back and it's so funny. Thank you!”
“My little Astrid is now 15 weeks old and she is the friendliest, most curious little hen. She comes right over to her humans and looks for my earrings, rings and treats to peck at lovingly. She follows us around the yard and loves to see what we are up to. Love this little girl so much!”
“We got 3 swedish flower hens. When they came they were super friendly and adorable they loved to climb on us and were eating and drinking just fine. But out of the 3 swedish flower hens none have started laying and they are they are 25 weeks old. We are wondering if it is a breed thing or something is wrong with our hens. They have also been very mean to both me and my other hens. They are mean to each other and we are waiting for eggs. We have a silkie and she is the best bird we have ever had. She is adorable, silly, and sweet to the other birds even when they are mean to her. No eggs from her either but she isn't supposed to lay at this age. If you are looking for a family friendly breed do not get swedish flower hens. However if you are looking for a pretty flock then these are great. If you are looking for a fast to start egg laying flock this is not the breed. Can't speak for size or quantity yet because we have not gotten any eggs. Is this normal?”
“We ordered three SFH from My Pet Chicken and I‚Äôm so glad we did! They are social, curious and enjoy human company. All three are sweethearts and they all look very different. I received one crested white and black chick (who is turning white and dark grey), one red chick (a chestnut brown with a gold neck, black head, and bright red highlights) and a dark brown chick with lighter caramel markings on her head (gorgeous white/black/red/gold Mille fleur). I will never go without SFH in my flock. They are a delight. I hope these descriptions help as I was eager to figure out how mine would feather out.”
“We received 15 chicks almost 2 weeks ago from MPC - our first chicks ever. Our SFH, Margot, is by far the absolute sweetest - and we have quite a mixed bag of breeds. Whenever I'm around, Margot runs to me, climbs in my lap and either hangs out or takes a nap. She loves to be handled and pet under her wings. I don't care if she ever lays - we love her to pieces as a snugly new family member.”
