“TLDR: I ended up with these birds as a shipment-day replacement before reading reviews. Panicked about the reviews. Ended up with a cockerel and pullet. (Already receive my MPC refund for the sexing error). Love them both. The pullet was a bit of a bully when I moved them out into the coop at 6 weeks, but 10 days of alone time in the brooder snapped her right out of it. Can't imagine my flock without them.
I ended up with two Super Blues in my order on shipment day when my Fauvacaunas were not available. The customer service rep on the phone recommended them based on having them in her own flock and suggesting they lay beautiful blue eggs. Feeling a bit rushed and disappointed about the Fauvacaunas I agreed without further research, only to later stress out about all the harsh reviews folks have to say about these birds.
Well, I have to say I'm so glad I ended up with them in my flock! They're only 11 weeks right now so I can't really report on the broodiness/egg-laying. But looks alone, they are gorgeous all-white, luscious full feathering, and have the absolute cutest muffs. One of my mine ended up being a rooster and at 11 weeks he's been fantastic in his rooster-ly duties. No signs of aggression or excessive bullying, I'm hoping he continues to be a model rooster after sexual maturity because I'd love to keep him in the flock. Storm, our pullet, went through a bit of a bully phase towards the other chicks around 6 weeks but 10 days alone in the brooder seems to have completely broken her of the habit. Otherwise, she's been very charismatic with me, the most likely to want to sit on my shoulder and follow me around.
Truly cannot overemphasize how gorgeous this pair is. The muffs kill me. They were both the first to feather out and develop compared to the rest of the flock the same age.”
“I would recommend this bird to anyone who want vibrant blue eggs and a sweet personality. Hedwig was very weak as a small chick, and for 2 days I was sleep-deprived, getting up to feed her every couple hours, but she pulled through, and I'm so glad she did. She likes to follow me around the yard and hop on my lap or my shoulder. While she has had the occasional blip-- she had to spend a couple nights in my room and get a bath--and one really weird egg which had a membrane and white on the outside of a fully formed egg, she is overall very good. She was having trouble laying for a while, giving me only 2 eggs a week, but I figured that she was just getting into the swing of things. Now I get at least 4 vibrant, beautiful blue eggs a week.”
“Received my super blue egg layer chick and other breeds today. . So happy at how healthy these birds are. Ate, drank and ran around all afternoon. I‚Äôm never disappointed in My Pet Chicken chicks.”
“A Super layer, indeed! "Dumpling" reliably produces 6 lovely large blue eggs a week. Part of a birthday present order from my husband, in June, she started laying in early November. She's white with black streaks, and fluffy cheeks. Good temperament, gets along well with the other four chickens (two of whom she was raised with). Friendly, but definitely too active to be a "sweet" chicken who's easy to hold. (Not a problem.)”
“My super blue just laid her first beautiful blue egg today! For a first egg, it was a very nice size and I imagine she‚Äôll end up laying a large egg. I knew there was a chance I wouldn‚Äôt get a blue egg, so I do feel lucky. I only gave 4 stars bc she is on the flighty side.”
“My Super Blue chicken ended up being pure white like I've seen others mention in the reviews. She is gorgeous now, and was adorable as a chick (I literally gasped when I opened the box to see the tiny white ball of fluff with the puffiest little cheeks). She's my sweetest of the chickens I ordered through MPC. Very curious, definitely lower in the pecking order, but still friendly to everyone. She lays very beautiful, blue eggs - no aqua tint to them. I love her!”
“I got a super blue last fall. I was wondering if I would regret my decision after reading some of these comments. She is seriously the nicest chicken I've had to date. She wants to come hang out with you and she has the cutest cheeks ever! I must of gotten one from a different breeder?”
“My Super Blue, Hedwig, had a rough start. She was very weak from the shipping and almost died, but thanks to Pedialite and egg yolks, she pulled through. She's big now, and may I just say, she is stunning. She's so pretty, and she's very friendly, though she is still wary of humans other than me.”
