“Like I wrote before, I have two Super Blues, but one is the 1 in 16 that has a single comb and lays white eggs, the other is a true SBEL. I still love her, she is super cute, lats a large blue egg every single day unless she is broody. And she is broody a lot! At exactly one year old she had been broody three times already. She is very persistent and it‚Äôs a two week battle to get her to snap out of it each time. If I ever decide to raise my own chicks, I know who the mama hen of choice will be (even though she is the smallest of all my hens). But in the meantime she is driving me batty! I will choose a different blue egg layer next time.”
“I purchased 5 day old chickens 3 years ago, each a different breed. Lula quickly rose to the top of the chicken ladder and has been bossing the others around since. She lays a greenish egg most days. Lula goes broody 1-2x each year & is impossible to break. I end up throwing an egg under her or getting a baby for her. She's a fantastic mother and since she's the boss, I don't have to segregate her from the flock when she has babies. She loves her treats & to free range. She doesn't mind being held, isn't afraid of my dog or kids, and has been known to peck on the door to demand treats if she hears us! I wouldn't want a flock of them (because of the broodiness), but she's the BEST!”
“They should rename these as Broody Blue Layer. At 5 and a half months she went broody and was determined to hatch something. I put 5 two-day old chicks under her and she has been the best mama! We call her teen mom now. She‚Äôs not even 6 months old and raising chicks. Great if you are looking for a broody, but I paid a lot for blue eggs.”
“We ordered one of these and she came in the cutest lemon yellow ball of fluff. She was probably the most cuddly and calm chick we have ever had. She would fall asleep on her back in your hand and just doze that way for a few minutes. You didn't even have to close your hand! As an adult she has been a joy to have, the kids and I pick her up, she sleeps in our arms, never fusses about the kids carrying her around for extended times. She laid her first beautiful blue egg today. I may change my mind when I have to break her brood, but I think for her sweetness it's worth it.”
“I got one of these girls in a mixed flock back in early fall and she just started laying (27 weeks). Since her first beautiful (blue!!) egg, she has laid nearly every day. In addition she is a super curious and friendly bird. She is near the top of the pecking order but never mean, just a little ‚Äúme first‚Äù bossy. Highly recommend the Super Blue.”
“I ordered 2 super blue pullets with my Easter Eggers and they are the sweetest most curious chickens. They love attention and will follow me around. They just started laying eggs and they seem to be very pale light blue almost pale green color.”
“When not broody, my super blue lays big light blue+++++ almost round eggs nearly every day! At least 6 per week. But she goes broody about 6 times per year! After 3 days in the "broody cage," she comes out and starts laying again. Broodiness is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars.”
