These little ladies are not usually a very large bird compared to some of the others in their "dual purpose" catagory since the hens typically weigh between 5-6 pounds and a roo between 7-8 pounds. As you have discovered though, they are a wonderfullly friendly and intelligent breed and a great addition to a backyard flock
Thank you so much for the review! Welsummers are on my top 10 favorite breeds list and they add some fun egg color to your basket as well! Enjoy your new flock member.
“Our Hazel from day 1 has by far been the most intelligent bird in our mixed flock. As a tiny chick she was very adventurous and loved to explore new things or try new treats. The older she has gotten she has continued that courage towards new, unfamiliar things and overall is an extremely quiet, calm, sweet, docile hen unphased by noise or other stressors. Very consistent layer of brown eggs, both cold and heat tolerant and friendly. She tolerates but doesn't love being held necessarily, but is very inquisitive and loves being nearby. Overall an excellent quiet, calm addition to any flock. Not your BFF in a hen that cuddles and follows you around, but sweet enough to let you pet her & say hello & not be disruptive to neighbors or other flock members.”

“Our little girl arrived happy and healthy - and continues to be after two weeks at home! She is active and curious, one of our most adventurous, but also likes to be held and will run into my hand and sit with me calmly. She’s definitely a favorite - and her feathers are growing in beautifully ☺️”
