“My Welsummer is 18 weeks this week, so she is not laying yet. She is beautiful and the gentlest one in the bunch. If you want a friendly hen, I recommend this gentle breed. So excited to get her eggs and will report back, as to productivity and color of her eggs once she gets going. Currently my favorite breed due to her disposition.”
“My chicks have just been taken outside. They are continuing to grow well, are strong and healthy. I'm pleased with their current progress and I will add to the comment once they begin to lay. I'm looking forward to adding dark, speckled eggs to my customers egg baskets.”
“The heaviest of all my hens, my Welsummer, Mable, stands at the top of the pecking order. Took me awhile to get her familiar with Handling but I believe we've reached an accord. Her laying routine fluctuates between every other day to every other three days. Much to my disappointment, I had assumed her eggs would remain a nice dark speckled design only to be proved wrong as she likes to coat her eggs only around fifty percent of the way, but she does lay the largest in the flock so it evens out. She's quite proud of this too, you can hear her from inside when she celebrates her laying, so in a sense, her loud alarm is quite helpful. I had noticed quite a bit aggression to one of our weaker hens who we had to eventually separate completely, but I believe it had to do with more of the pecking order than her natural behavior. She handles being in her run well and when she receives yard time she likes to hang around without wondering off too far. I do recommend this bird for first-time backyard flock-ers.”
