“I ordered 4 leghorns from MPC, they arrived healthy, super smart like napping in their ex-brooder area on the deck, flying from the roof of the coop to the deck looking for food, or walking up the stairs like my pet dog. Always the first to greet me and the first running away at a slightest sudden move. They lay 6 eggs per week, big or medium depending how much they eat, they like foraging by themselves, rather small built compared to other breeds. Will order Leghorn again from MPC.”
“We received several healthy chicks from MPC about 18 months ago (February 2020). The ordering and shipping process was smooth and the customer service was outstanding (I contacted them with several questions)! Our Leghorn may not be the most beautiful chicken (she‚Äôs kind of skinny), but she is extraordinarily friendly, excellent at free-ranging and is a FANTASTIC layer. We almost did not get a Leghorn because I read that they tend to be flighty. However, as other customers have attested to, MPC has managed to produce a very friendly line of Leghorns! She began laying at 20 weeks and gave us 6-7 large eggs/week (60-62 grams) for her first year of laying (even through a Michigan winter in a coop without heat or lights); she is now averaging 4-5 eggs/week.”
“I ordered a white leghorn chick with my other chicks. when they arrived none were dead. It took until Wednesday for them to arrive because we live farther than advisable from my pet chicken. When I carefully put them in the brooder I noticed that my leghorn Elsa was slightly smaller than the others, none of the chicks had deformities and they seemed healthy. Elsa died a day later. I think it was over stress in shipping, which is not my pet chicken's fault. they were nice and refunded us for our loss. the other chicks are 6 weeks old now and thriving, so I think I will use MPC again.”
“I ordered 5 females and one ended up with curled toes. I named her Ada and because I had to constantly handle her to change her cast she‚Äôs very loving. Her foot is a lot better but still noticeable how curled it is. I‚Äôve been worrying about bumble foot in the future but she‚Äôs one of my more outgoing chicks. Every time I go into the room she flies out and waits to be picked up. Adorable how jealous she gets with the other birds, she once attacked one of the other chicks. The other females are a little jumpy and run around constantly but they are all super sweet. Will definitely order more in the future.”
“I've been around chickens all my life and have hatched birds and ordered them. I've had a wide variety of breeds but never had a humble leghorn. The six little pullets I ordered have been the most active, curious, and busiest of any baby chick I've ever had. They don't even mind being handled. I can't wait to see them grow. I'm already in love with their little personalities.”
“I‚Äôve only had her about 3 weeks but she is easily the most affectionate of the variety of 6 I ordered, despite their reputation (GL Wyandotte, BP Rock, Easter, Olive, Cream Lb, and her). She was the first to start trying to fly their enclosure, but it‚Äôs usually just when I‚Äôm around to come hang out on me. She gets along well with the other birds and seems to be friends with the BP Rock. Active, friendly, and renowned as prolific producer. Very happy with my little Skyler White.”
“In May we ordered 8 chicks, who are so far thriving through out hot Southern summer. Our Leghorn is the friendliest, most interested of all our chicks. They are 10 weeks old now and when she hears me heading out to the coop, she jumps onto the roost, the waterer, or anything she can find so I'll pet her. If I'm not careful, she'll fly straight out of the coop to get to me! She's definitely the boss of the flock, but isn't aggressive; she manages with a pretty convincing stink eye. She only gets jealous if I'm taking photos of the others - I have so many photobombs. Don't let anyone tell you Leghorns are unfriendly, this one (and it looks like many others in the reviews) is delightful.”
“I have read literature about Leghorns that describes them as frequently nervous and flighty. But the two we received as part of our Good Egg Layer assortment of day old chicks are just the opposite. They are curious, tame and easily handled. They are very calm, but will 'talk' to us in a very animated way when they feel that we need to know something right away. They are our two favorite hens.”
