“Firstly fit: I'm 6', 40" chest, no beer gut, ~83Kg and fairly wide at the shoulders. The LARGE size fits perfectly, even with layers underneath. I thought about getting the XL for my size but glad I didn't, otherwise there would have been too much redundant material and this would get in the way of gun mounting.
Secondly looks - I LOVE this jacket. The styling is soooo much better than the usual big-named brand wax jackets that I have used over the last 50 years. TBH they look like a loose sack compared with the VC Fox Original. I still don't really understand what the shell is made of and how the waterproofing works, but it works fine, looks great and I don't think it needs any re-proofing, so far as my understanding allows.
Thirdly functionality - there are loads of pockets, including some surprises. Nice bellows pockets for cartridges, but no ability to clip the pocket flap open for rapid access to cartridges (some jackets have this, but not the Fox). Hand warmer lined pockets each side above the bellows pockets. Nice touch. Round the back each side are large zipped gusset pockets for ventilation, or storage of goodness-knows what. It forms a huge single pocket overlying your lower & mid-back. Wallet pocket left side under the press-stud flap that protects the zip. Internally there are chest pockets both sides and a lined "poacher's" pocket on the lower right. Good sized mobile phone pocket with safety over-strap left lower side.
There is also a thin hood stored in the collar. The collar is soft, insulating and just really good, as are the sleeves (with pit ventilation zips both sides) and adjustable wrist studs.
Nice length overall, which covers your backside and upper thighs, although TBH this make is so good that I'm going to buy the Fox Original trousers too, which are waterproof allegedly.
The main zip is plastic, but very robust.
The material is low-noise, not greasy or messy and just looks kind-of "worn in", which I like. There is extra protection on the shoulders (yokes), elbow reinforcement pads and side reinforcement of the same material.
There is plenty of material at the front to accommodate the more portly gentleman, but on a thinner guy it doesn't hang like a sack.
Quality? It's made in China, but so too is everything these days. I can't fault the materials used and the stitching accuracy is superb. No loose threads or buttons identified (yet). Spare buttons supplied.
Just, simply (for me anyway, in my opinion) a GREAT jacket, which I prefer so much more than the "usual" jackets (no names), which just seem to be out-dated now and don't look anything like as good as this one. Great value too. So pleased I found this and got one. Good service from New Forest Clothing too.”
