“I bought one of these jackets a year ago, so i feel well qualified to review it.
The service from new forest clothing was excellent. I ordered several jackets in various sizes before making my decision on which jacket to keep.
I kept the traditional wax jacket in a large size. In a barbour i would wear an xl. The sizing is generous, so it is easy to layer up. I can wear a down filled Jacket underneath or a gillet if required. This means it is A relaxed fit when wearing a shirt or tee shirt. The cut is boxy and not fitted or tailored. Just functional. If you’re looking for something stylish such aS a Belstaff or Barbour look, look elsEwhere.
In terms of DURABILITY: nothing has broken, pocket linings are still intact, water resistance is as good today as it was a year ago. A couple of threads have pulled slightly. One of the storm cuffs has a small hole between it and the sleeve liner But i’m Not disappointed with it.
I Have used it a lot through the year in all weathers. On cold days it needs a liner of some sort, which as stated is Easy to do. It hasn’t leaked aT all, although i have not been out in torrential rain, so it is definitely shower proof.
Things i would change if i coUld? The hand warmer pockets could do with a fleece lining rather than the cotton They have. A zip in lining option would be good to make it more versatile. A chin strap to make the collar area more windproof. Adding these features would be great but would no doubt make it more Expensive.
So, to conclude, it is great value for a functional wax jacket. Perfect for most situations. Not as smart as a Barbour But it is A fraction of the cost of a Barbour.”
