“Like the Marcella waistcoat (backed, 40RG), the quality and fit of this tailcoat are very impressive. One of the issues I always had with my previous tailcoats is the sleeve length, but these on this Extra Long one almost completely cover any shirt cuff, which is acceptable with White Tie.
My first criticism is that this is an Extra Long one, and yet my waistcoat still protrudes underneath its sides when it is a supposedly regular length one. I say supposedly because even on my height (6ft 5in) my waistcoat is very long and a part of me thinks it’s a long one that was mistakenly labelled as regular. This means that to anyone hoping to have a tailcoat with sides long enough to cover the whole waistcoat, Oliver Brown won’t do. The closest you’ll get is to have your tailcoat Extra long and your waistcoat Regular length (based on my online purchases).
My other criticism is the lining. Oliver Brown’s website advertises it as being black, whereas it’s a sort of teal blue. Also, this tailcoat costs just under £600, and yet it’s lined in polyester/viscose. After paying that kind of money, I expected it to be lined in genuine silk. Back in 2018, I bought an overcoat from Hugo Boss, which is cashmere wool and lined in pure silk, which cost me £399 (that may be a little more today thanks to inflation). So after paying an almost extra two hundred pounds, I expected this Oliver Brown tailcoat to be lined in silk.
Other than those thoughts, I am impressed with this and am hoping to order the matching trousers soon.”
